🚜🌽 Farm Equipment on Our Roads: Share the Road Safely 🌽🚜

As planting season is underway across Douglas County, motorists will see more tractors, combines, and other large farm equipment traveling on our rural roads and highways.

These vehicles are essential to our agricultural community, but they move much slower than normal traffic and require extra space to operate safely.

Operators of these implements are often doing their best to ensure everyone's safety, and prefer to be in the field rather than on a roadway.

🚗 Safety Tips for Motorists:

✅ Slow down and be patient. Farm equipment often travels at speeds of 15–25 mph.
✅ Watch for the orange triangle emblem, which indicates a slow-moving vehicle.
✅ Do not pass unless it is legal and safe. Make sure you have a clear view of oncoming traffic. A FLASHING amber signal on one side with a SOLID amber signal on the other indicates the implement will be turning in the direction of the flashing amber signal. The implement may need to swing wide to complete the turn safely.
✅ Remember equipment may turn unexpectedly and visibility is often hindered. Wide implements often swing left before making a right turn.
✅ Give extra following distance. Large equipment can obscure your view and may stop suddenly.
✅ Be especially cautious at dawn and dusk, when visibility is reduced.

🚜 Safety Tips for Farmers:

🌟 Use lights, reflectors, and slow-moving vehicle emblems.
🌟 Check mirrors frequently and pull over when safe to allow traffic to pass.
🌟 Ensure equipment is properly secured before traveling.

Our farmers work hard to feed our communities. By slowing down and sharing the road, we can help prevent crashes and keep everyone safe.

If you encounter farm equipment on the roadway, remember: A few extra minutes of patience can save a life.
