FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On July 13, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., deputies with the Miller County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on Big Oak Lane, near Brumley, following a report of a home invasion and shooting.

The caller reported that her ex-husband, armed with a rifle, kicked in the door and entered the residence before being shot by a male occupant inside the home.

Upon arrival, deputies located a 35-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the male deceased.

Investigators responded and conducted a thorough investigation. The investigation remains active and, upon completion, the case will be forwarded to the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for review.

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and out of respect for those involved, the Sheriff's Office will not be releasing the identity of the deceased at this time.

This was an isolated incident, and there was no threat to the public.

The Miller County Sheriff's Office has no further comment at this time. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Today marks the 250th anniversary of America's declaration of independence from the tyranny of Great Britain. On July 4, 1776, our Founding Fathers declared that the rights of the people exist independent of government and that liberty belongs to every American.

As written in the Declaration of Independence:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Those words have inspired generations of Americans to defend the freedoms we enjoy today. Our rights and liberties are precious, and they are worth exercising, protecting, and preserving for future generations.

The Miller County Coroner’s Office is investigating a death following a boating access incident that occurred on June 23, 2026, at the public boat access located at the base of Bagnell Dam, 245 River Road, Lake Ozark.

The decedent has been identified as Michael Lindsay, age 60. Mr. Lindsay was pronounced deceased at 6:39 p.m. at the scene by the Miller County Coroner’s Office.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Mr. Lindsay was operating a vehicle while backing a boat trailer down the ramp when the vehicle and trailer entered the water and became submerged. Mr. Lindsay was unable to exit the vehicle and was recovered from the water deceased.

At this time, the death appears to be accidental in nature, and there is no indication of suspicious circumstances. The investigation remains ongoing by the Miller County Coroner’s Office.

Agencies assisting at included Miller County E 9-1-1, Miller County, Missouri Sheriff's Office, Lake Ozark Fire Protection District, Missouri Dept. of Conservation, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The Miller County Coroner’s Office extends its condolences to Mr. Lindsay’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. Next of kin has been notified. No further information is being released at this time.

As the Miller County Coroner, I generally do not comment on criminal sentences. However, cases involving the intentional taking of a human life are among the most difficult investigations we encounter.

The death of a Miller County resident in 2019 was not an accident, nor was it the result of natural causes. According to court records, the victim was poisoned with ethylene glycol before the residence was intentionally set on fire. The investigation reflected a deliberate act that resulted in the loss of a human life.

The victim's family lost a husband, family member, and friend. That loss is permanent.

While the criminal justice system involves many factors that are considered by prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, and juries, cases involving the deliberate taking of a life often leave the public questioning whether the punishment imposed truly reflects the severity of the crime.

Recent convictions for additional criminal conduct by the defendant, particularly while serving in a position of public trust as a nurse, only add to those concerns and raise broader questions about accountability within our justice system.

My thoughts remain with the victim's family and loved ones, who continue to live with the consequences of that act every day. Regardless of the sentence imposed, a life was taken, and a family was forever changed.

As public servants, we owe it to victims and their families to continue striving for a justice system that values accountability, transparency, and the sanctity of human life.

The mission of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is to learn the basic skills needed to respond to the community’s immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available OR to provide support to emergency service providers. Residential Structure Fire Investigation in Tuscumbia, Missouri

On the early morning of June 10, 2026, emergency responders were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 2000 block of Missouri Highway 52 near Tuscumbia, Missouri.

The Tuscumbia Fire Protection District, with assistance from surrounding fire departments and emergency response agencies, responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the fire. Following suppression efforts and completion of fire scene operations, a deceased individual was located within the residence.

The decedent has been presumptively identified as Thomas W. Snodgrass, 69, of Tuscumbia, Missouri.

The Missouri Division of Fire Safety responded to the scene and is actively investigating the cause and origin of the fire. At this time, there is no indication of suspicious circumstances surrounding either the fire or the death. Next of kin have been notified.

Motorists may have experienced significant traffic delays and roadway closures along Missouri Highway 52 in the Tuscumbia area during the morning hours as emergency personnel conducted fire suppression, investigation, and recovery operations. This incident was the cause of those closures and traffic disruptions.

The Miller County Coroner's Office was assisted by the Miller County Ambulance District, Miller County E 9-1-1, Miller County, Missouri Sheriff's Office, Tuscumbia Fire Protection District, and numerous surrounding fire departments that responded to provide mutual aid.

The Miller County Coroner's Office investigation remains ongoing pending final examination and investigative findings. Additional information will be released if appropriate.

The Miller County Coroner's Office extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic loss.

The Miller County Coroner’s Office will be in attendance at the upcoming Town Hall and Candidate Meet & Greet on April 6th at 6:00 PM at The Encore in Lake Ozark.

This event provides an opportunity for residents to engage directly with elected officials and candidates, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of how their local government operates.

Public service requires transparency and accountability. I encourage anyone with questions about the Coroner’s Office or county operations to attend.

I had originally planned to have our 2025 Annual Report completed and released earlier this year. However, in order to ensure accuracy and completeness, we needed to wait for a case from 2025 to be fully finalized. This included receiving the final autopsy results before closing the investigation.

Now that all cases from 2025 have been completed and reviewed, I’m proud to share the finalized annual report with the community. Transparency and accuracy are important to us, and we wanted to make sure everything included in this report reflects the most complete and accurate information possible.
