The MCEDA is governed by a board of directors that are appointed by various municipalities in Macon County and by Tuskegee University, Macon County Board of Education, the Chamber of Commerce and legislative delegation of Macon County. It is a diverse and broad-based governing body that allows every community and constituency of Macon County to have a voice. The MCEDA receives operational funds f

rom a tax from the abundant sand and gravel that is mined and trucked out of Macon County

In 2010, the MCEDA in cooperation with the South Central Development Authority (SCAD) from the State of Alabama adopted a strategic plan for the authority. The MCEDA meets monthly and in January of 2011 engaged a strategic consultant who serves as the board’s first paid staffer. The MCEDA has joined the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA) as one of its community partners; the Alabama-German Partnership and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). We have embarked on an aggressive effort to certify industrial properties along the Interstate 85 Corridor for the designation of “Advantaged Sites”. The MCEDA is committed to retail, commercial and industrial growth in each of its four incorporated communities as well as along its five exits along I-85 and is open to finding incentives for new companies and expanding businesses. The MCEDA has opened a full time office in Tuskegee, Alabama in the Community Development Corporation offices at 608 Dibble Street, Suite 7. The MCEDA has rallied the community together for new prosperity and is the single point of contact for all economic development projects. We are committed to helping prospective clients and businesses navigate and network with the various governmental bodies and organizations in our county and state. The MCEDA is open for business and welcomes inquiries and questions.
