We’re taking a moment to look back on a great day of service from May!

A big thank you to the volunteers from Maxwell Air Force Base who spent part of their Saturday helping clean up the Skyway at the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site. With 1940s music playing on the jukebox, the group worked together to help preserve an important part of Tuskegee Airmen history.

We greatly appreciate their commitment to stewardship and community service. After a productive day of work, the volunteers enjoyed sharing a cold Coca-Cola and reflecting on a job well done.

Thank you, Maxwell Air Force Base, for your continued partnership and support!

We would like to extend a special thank you to 1st Sgt. Peter Simonelli of Maxwell Air Force Base and the Class 26-D First Sergeant Academy for their thoughtful contribution to our growing patch display. These patches help us tell a broader story of service, connection, and legacy. Linking past and present through the proud traditions of Fighter Squadrons and the men and women who serve.

Take a close look… can you spot the 99th Fighter Squadron patch?

If you would like to see the patches in person, they are currently on display in Hangar 1, located in the Orientation Room. As our exhibit continues to grow, each new piece helps tell an even greater story.

Those interested in being represented are welcome to reach out to learn more about how to be included in this evolving exhibit.

Congratulations, Lt. Royce Dickerson!

The Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site proudly congratulates Lt. Royce Dickerson on taking his Oath of Office on April 23, 2026. This milestone marks the beginning of his journey as an officer and continues a powerful legacy rooted right here at Moton Field.

Lt. Dickerson’s connection to this legacy runs deep. His great-grandfather, Marion John Shepard, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, a powerful reminder of the generations who have answered the call to serve. From one generation to the next, the legacy lives on. Congratulations again, Lt. Dickerson, we are proud to be a part of your story!

Flashback Friday to an unforgettable STEM Day at Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site!

From piloting drones through an obstacle course to designing and testing parachutes, students were fully immersed in hands-on learning. Inside the Auburn University Geo Explorer Mobile STEM Lab, they explored weather, topography, and real-time data, while the static UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter from Fort Rucker gave them a close-up look at aviation in action.

Moments like these continue to spark curiosity and connect students to the powerful legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. Thank you again to our amazing partners and volunteers who made it all possible!

Step by step, the story comes into focus.

Air Bird Annie is on the move at Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, following the paths that wind through the historic grounds.

As she explores, Air bird Annie is walking through the same landscape where the Tuskegee Airmen trained and prepared for flight. These spaces once held the energy, discipline, and determination of those who served here.

Annie takes her time as she walks, imagining what this place would have been like during training.

She also makes sure to stay on designated paths to help protect the site.
