For Bear, who struggled with su*cidal thoughts for most of his life and spent years facing homelessness, "divine intervention" is much more than a turn of phrase. Here, he shares how an attempt to take his own life turned into a brand new chapter of it — one where he came to know Jesus Christ.

We’re excited to celebrate Sirena Rhodes, who was our March Employee of the Month!

As Program Services Navigator, Sirena helps oversee many of the specialized services that support our students on their journey toward restoration — including tattoo removal, mentorship matching, legal services, the Confident Smile program, and more.

Her role involves helping students navigate barriers, coordinating critical services, and walking alongside them as they work toward stability and long-term success.

She said that "seeing students get their records expunged and watching students reach their fullest potential and goals," is something she loves about her work.

"The most rewarding thing is being a part of that journey and watching their growth."

She also shared that one of her favorite things about working at OCRM is the sense of family among coworkers and the positive work environment.

Thank you, Sirena, for the incredible heart and dedication you bring to Orange County Rescue Mission every day!

In his time leading Mariners Church at Orange County Rescue Mission, Pastor Jorge Molina says he's learned a lot about unconditional love. Seeing how our students care for each other while rebuilding their lives, and how the staff supports them along the way, can paint a beautiful example of how God loves each of us.

Before Pedro came to Orange County Rescue Mission (OCRM), he says he couldn’t picture a different future for himself.

"I had no desire to change. I didn't see myself out of that box, you know, jail time, etc."

Through community, support, and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, Pedro says his life started changing in ways he never expected.

“Now that I'm here, I got to connect with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And it's really changed my life.”

As Pedro rebuilt his life, he also saw healing happening within his family. He shared how meaningful it was knowing his children were cared for in a safe environment while he worked and focused on his future.

And through the support of OCRM staff and the coaches in our Career Launch Workshop, he began gaining confidence in himself, too.

“I can tackle an interview now. I feel like I got this.”

Today, Pedro says he’s forever grateful for the people who encouraged him, kept him grounded in faith, and helped him keep moving forward.

“To the donors, to the case managers again, to all the supervisors, and to everyone else that contributes to this place ... it changes a person like me ... Thank you."

We're so grateful to friends like you in our OCRM community for helping create a place where our students can experience transformation and hope for the future.

Today, on Memorial Day, we honor the servicemembers who gave their lives for our country — men and women whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we experience every day, and we pause with gratitude and reverence to remember them. At Orange County Rescue Mission, we are especially thankful for the veterans and military families in our community, and we hold close the memory of all who served with honor and gave everything.

May we remember their sacrifice not just today, but always.
