⚓ Advancing excellence at NMRTC Twentynine Palms

Congratulations to Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Nicole Gatbonton and Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Joshua Balls, who were promoted during a surprise ceremony led by Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Twentynine Palms commanding officer Capt. Janiese Cleckley.

Gatbonton and Balls were selected for Command Advance to Position (CA2P) under the Navy’s Billet Based Advancement (BBA) program in recognition of their outstanding performance and dedication to the mission. As biomedical equipment technicians, their expertise helps ensure our medical teams have the safe, reliable equipment they need to deliver care and support the readiness of our warfighters and their families.

Their advancement reflects the professionalism, technical expertise and commitment they bring to Navy Medicine every day.

⚓ Investing in the future of the Medical Service Corps

Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Twentynine Palms welcomed Deputy Corps Chief of the Navy Medical Service Corps Capt. Kris Hodapp and Navy Medical Service Corps Career Planner Capt. Marcy Morlock on Aug. 5.

During their visit, Hodapp and Morlock met with commanding officer and Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms director Capt. Janiese Cleckley and interim executive officer and deputy director Lt. Cmdr. Pamela Foss before holding an all-hands call with the command’s Medical Service Corps officers. They discussed the important role MSC officers play in supporting warfighter health and readiness while sharing career guidance, professional development opportunities and insight into the future of the corps.

Hodapp and Morlock also met individually with MSC officers for one-on-one career planning sessions tailored to their goals and career paths. The visit provided NMRTC Twentynine Palms MSC officers a valuable opportunity to connect directly with corps leadership, ask questions and gain insight to help guide the next steps in their Navy careers.

⚓ The Medical Officer of the Marine Corps visits NMRTC Twentynine Palms

Rear Adm. Guido Valdes, The Medical Officer (TMO) of the Marine Corps, visited Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Twentynine Palms on August 4 to meet with leadership and learn more about the command’s support to Marines and their families at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms.

During the visit, Valdes met with commanding officer and Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms director Capt. Janiese Cleckley and interim executive officer and deputy director Lt. Cmdr. Pamela Foss to discuss the military treatment facility’s role in supporting the health, readiness and operational effectiveness of the installation’s Marines.

The visit highlighted the close partnership between Navy Medicine and the Marine Corps and the critical role the command plays in keeping our nation’s warfighters fit to fight tonight.

⚓ Honoring the 79th Medical Service Corps Birthday!

Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Twentynine Palms celebrated the U.S. Navy Medical Service Corps birthday with a ceremony Aug. 4, recognizing more than a century of service, leadership and innovation in military medicine.

Established in 1917, the Medical Service Corps has grown into a diverse community of more than 3,000 Active and Reserve officers representing 31 specialties across healthcare administration, healthcare clinical care and healthcare science. MSC officers play a vital role in keeping Navy Medicine ready to support the warfighter, whether managing healthcare operations, advancing medical science or providing specialized clinical expertise.

The ceremony featured Rear Adm. Guido Valdes, Medical Officer of the Marine Corps, as an honored guest speaker. Valdes joined NMRTC Twentynine Palms in recognizing the contributions of Medical Service Corps officers and their commitment to ensuring medical teams have the expertise, resources and support needed to accomplish the mission.

Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Twentynine Palms welcomed home Culinary Specialist 2nd Class Jonathan Sandoval during a Welcome Home Breakfast with commanding officer Capt. Janiese Cleckley and command leadership on July 27. The breakfast, prepared by his fellow culinary specialists, recognized his dedication, sacrifice and service while deployed and celebrated his safe return to Twentynine Palms.

🪖 Keeping Marines fit to fight at ITX 3-26

During Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) 3-26 at Marine Air-Ground Task Force Training Command/Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, hospital corpsmen assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Twentynine Palms joined medical personnel from across the country to provide around-the-clock care at Camp Wilson's Consolidated Aid Station.

From treating routine illnesses and injuries to standing ready for medical emergencies, these corpsmen helped ensure Marines and Sailors remained healthy, ready and in the fight throughout the exercise.
