On Thursday, August 27, 2026, at approximately 7:59 a.m., Twin Falls Police officers responded to the intersection of Jackson Street and Shoup Avenue for a crash involving a white Dodge Journey and a school bus.

Preliminary information indicates the Dodge Journey was traveling southbound on Jackson Street while the school bus was traveling eastbound on Shoup Avenue when the vehicles collided in the uncontrolled intersection.

Both drivers were transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Eleven students were on the school bus; one student was evaluated by medical personnel on scene.

Twin Falls Fire Department and Magic Valley Paramedics assisted at the scene.

Safety reminder: At an uncontrolled intersection—an intersection without traffic signals or stop/yield signs—Idaho law generally requires a driver to yield the right-of-way to a vehicle approaching from the driver’s right when the vehicles enter or approach the intersection at approximately the same time. Drivers must also operate at a safe speed, remain alert, and use due care to avoid a collision.

Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today, we’re giving a big “paw-salute” to the four-legged members of our K-9 Unit. From tracking critical evidence to helping locate missing people and supporting officers in the field, these hardworking partners bring focus, loyalty, and an incredible sense of smell to every shift.

They may work for tennis balls and a good ear scratch—but their dedication to keeping our community safe is no joke.

As summer comes to a close, we want to give a huge shout-out to all of the incredible young entrepreneurs who invited us to visit their lemonade stands! 🍋☀️

We loved seeing your hard work, creativity, customer service, and big business dreams in action. From homemade signs to ice-cold lemonade, you showed our community what dedication and entrepreneurship look like.

We know we weren’t able to make it to every stand this summer, but we truly appreciated every invitation and message. We’re already looking forward to visiting even more lemonade stands next summer!

Today, our department was humbled by the generosity of community members who came together to support victims in need.

A thoughtful group of citizens donated essential care items—including diapers, baby wipes, clothing, food, and toys—for our Victim Services Coordinator to keep available for individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.

These items may seem simple, but in a moment of crisis, they can provide comfort, dignity, and immediate relief. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed and helped ensure that help is available when it is needed most.

Our agency is participating in a statewide Labor Day impaired driving mobilization from August 19 through September 7, 2026. The enforcement period is part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, coordinated in Idaho by the Office of Highway Safety.

During the mobilization, we will increase patrols and focus on identifying drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Impaired driving remains a leading factor in serious crashes statewide, especially during holiday weekends.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, use a ride-share service, or find another safe way home. Those who see an impaired driver on the road should call 311 or 911 when it is safe to do so.

🚨 We’re excited to announce the rescheduled date for our 2026 National Night Out! 🚨

Mark your calendars and join us on Tuesday, September 22nd, from 5:00–7:00 PM at City Park for an evening of community connection, family fun, and public-safety teamwork!

Come meet the people who serve our community—including law enforcement, fire personnel, and other first responders. Get an up-close look at emergency vehicles, explore equipment and gear, ask questions, and say hello!

UPDATE 6:30 PM: We want to update the public on the condition of the dog. The dog involved in this incident has been treated and released to the owner to return home.

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., two Twin Falls Police Department officers were at a residence in the 300 Blk Diamond Ave to speak with a resident regarding an active investigation.

One officer knocked on the front door and then stepped a few feet to the side in the front yard. A large Rottweiler ran from the side of the house toward the officer. As the dog approached the officer, the officer discharged their duty weapon, striking the dog. Animal Control promptly transported the dog to a local veterinary office for evaluation and medical care.

Consistent with established practice for officer-involved incidents, the matter has been referred to the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office for an independent investigation. Please allow the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office time to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as investigators gather facts, review the circumstances, and complete their investigation.

Additional information will be provided when appropriate, while protecting the integrity of the active investigation and respecting the privacy of those involved.

Back-to-school season is here, and Officer Carlson, one of our newest School Resource Officers, is ready to help kick things off safely!

We love seeing all those first-day smiles, fresh backpacks, and “how did they grow up so fast?!” back-to-school photos. Before you post, Officer Carlson has a quick safety reminder for families:

Not all first-day photos are created equal.

Some popular back-to-school signs include a lot of personal information, such as:
🛑Full name
🛑School name
🛑Teacher’s name
🛑Grade
🛑Age
🛑Favorite activities
🛑Bus stop or neighborhood information

While those details may seem fun and harmless, they can give strangers information they could use to identify, locate, or approach your child.

Officer Carlson’s back-to-school photo tip:

Take one simple photo to share online with limited information, such as “First Day of School!” or “Ready for 3rd Grade!”

Then take a second, more detailed photo for your records or to send directly to trusted family and friends.

In the photos with this post, Officer Carlson is showing examples of what to share and what to keep private. Think of it like packing a backpack: only send out what your child really needs.
