TRAFFIC SAFETY REMINDER

A stop sign doesn't just mean stop, it also means yield the right of way.

Twin Falls County Sheriff's deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of 3300 E and 3700 N near Clif Bar this afternoon. The driver at fault came to a complete stop at a stop sign but then entered the roadway into the path of oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision.

At two-way stop intersections, drivers facing stop signs must not only stop, but also wait until there is enough time and distance to safely cross or enter traffic. Misjudging the speed or distance of approaching vehicles can have serious consequences.

Before proceeding through the intersection: Come to a complete stop
- Look carefully in all directions
- Yield to traffic with the right of way
- Wait for a safe gap before proceeding

A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a crash and save lives.

Remember: Stopping is required. Yielding safely is essential.

Where the deer and the antelope play.... wait those are elk and moose.

Campgrounds are filling fast before Father's Day weekend. FS Flats is already full.

Some friendly reminders.... children/youth under 18 on side by sides either need a DOT approved helmet, or they need to be seatbelted in. They must wear DOT helmets on 4 wheelers and motorcycles. The fine for helmet law violations is $67.00.

We encourage everyone to be safe while recreating as we anticipate a busy weekend. Here is a list of other Off Highway Vehicle violations our deputies are looking out for:

- Failure to purchase, renew, display registration sticker. Idaho Code 67-7122 ($156.50)
- Modified exhaust, no spark arrestor, exceeds 65 decibels. ($156.50)
- Operating above posted speed limit or above 45 mph on Highway. ($67.00)
- Operating without restricted plate and sticker. ($67.00)
- Valid drivers license (except under 16 when supervised by licensed adult within 300 feet). ($307.50)
- Operator under 16 no OHV Safety Course on Forest Service Lands. ($67.00)
- DUI (Misdemeanor)

A tragic reminder from Bear Lake this weekend highlights the importance of water safety.

A 17-year-old paddleboarder from Arizona lost his life after falling from his paddleboard and becoming separated from it. Authorities reported that he was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident. Despite rapid response efforts by multiple emergency agencies, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.

Unfortunately, incidents involving paddleboards, kayaks, and other non-motorized vessels continue to account for a significant number of boating-related drownings each year. Many of these tragedies share a common factor: the absence of a properly worn life jacket.

Whether you're enjoying the Snake River, a reservoir, or a mountain lake, remember:

- Every non-motorized vessel must have a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket for each person on board.
- A sound-producing device, such as a whistle, is required.
- Children under 15 years of age must wear their life jacket while underway.
- Anyone 15 years of age or older must have a life jacket readily accessible, but wearing it is strongly encouraged.

The law may only require adults to have a life jacket available, but it can only save your life if you're wearing it. Cold water, wind, fatigue, unexpected falls, and separation from your vessel can quickly turn a day of recreation into an emergency.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this tragic loss. Please take a moment to review your safety equipment before heading out on the water and make wearing your life jacket part of every trip.
