The City of Spokane Police Department's Patrol Anti-Crime Team located a male that had a felony warrant for his arrest in the northern part of the City. The original charge this guy was wanted for was 2nd degree robbery. This guy was well known to the police and has a history of being less than cooperative. He was someone we use extra caution with and has gang affiliations.
Now, his idea was to run into a house and hide from the police, which also included SPD’s K9 King in the hunt. This guy’s chosen location to hide was in an attic crawl space that ran the length of the house, which was accessed from an upstairs room. He then covered himself with insulation in hopes that would keep K9 King from finding him. To his disappointment, K9 King still located him deep in the crawl space. The guy struggled and fought with K9 King enough that they both crashed through the ceiling and fell to the floor below which was about an 8’ drop. This allowed the suspect enough time to try running once again. He made it to the backyard and into a garage. However, the yard was already surrounded by additional cops and he had no place else to go and he no longer wanted to deal with K9 King so he gave up after coming to his senses.
Thanks to K9 King, no officers were hurt even though the violent suspect continued to make bad choice after bad choice. K9 King wasn’t hurt in the fall and we are so thankful these 4 legged partners of ours love playing hide and seek with violent offenders. The great thing about these dogs is they love their job and their purpose in life. Us as handlers and officers couldn’t be more grateful for them, they make our job soooooo much safer.
