Virgil Richter was elected the first chief and meetings were in the basements of various homes. Some members of the Twin Lakes Vol. Fire Department saw a need for emergency medical service in their area. The Twin Lakes Rescue Squad was formed in 1949, the first such organization in western Kenosha County. Earl VanHorne was the first chief (captain) of the Rescue Squad. The Twin Lakes Volunteer Fir

It is a tribute to everyone in the department that day-in and day-out we meet that challenge and that we do so under conditions that can be difficult and dangerous.

Kids learn by watching the adults around them. One of the easiest ways to encourage children to wear a life jacket is to wear yours too!

Whether youโ€™re boating, fishing, kayaking, or enjoying a day on the lake, wearing a life jacket sets the example that safety comes first. Most boating accidents happen unexpectedly โ€” and a life jacket can save your life.

Be the example. Buckle up your life jacket and help make water safety a habit for everyone onboard. ๐Ÿ’™

At Twin Lakes Fire/Rescue, Tuesdays are training nights, and May was packed with opportunities to sharpen skills and prepare for the calls our community depends on us for.

Our EMS crews focused on EKG rhythm interpretation. EMS Chief Cindy Amore, RN provided classroom instruction on reading rhythm strips and building the foundation of EKG interpretation. This training will serve as an important stepping stone as we prepare for in-house advanced EKG training with Aurora South EMS Medical Direction in June.

On May 19th, members trained on water supply and water relay pumping. With no fire hydrants throughout our jurisdiction, we rely heavily on drafting from water sources and relay pumping through tender shuttle operations to ensure a reliable water supply on scene.

May 26th brought hands-on training with trailer driving operations, UTV operations, and ground ladders. While operating the UTV may be the exciting part, ladder work and backing trailers safely are equally important skills. Crews trained at the Town of Randall Fire Department training house, practicing ladder throws and trailer backing/driving skills. A special thank you to the Town of Randall Volunteer Fire Department for allowing us to use their Fire Station 2 for training.

We had 18 members in attendance at each training night, and we appreciate everyoneโ€™s continued willingness to learn, improve, and better serve our community. Training never stops, because emergencies donโ€™t either.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, let us take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of their courage, service, and sacrifice.

From all of us at Twin Lakes Fire/Rescue, we remember and honor those who gave everything for our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Before you fire up the grill this weekend, here are a few quick safety reminders from your friends at Twin Lakes Fire/Rescue:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Keep grills at least 10 feet away from your house, deck, or anything that likes to catch fire (including Uncle Earlโ€™s lawn chair).
๐Ÿงฏ Never leave the grill unattended โ€” hot dogs can wait, fires wonโ€™t.
๐Ÿ” Clean grease and buildup from your grill to help prevent flare-ups.
๐Ÿถ Keep kids and pets away from the โ€œhot zoneโ€ (we know everyone wants the first burger).
๐Ÿ’จ If using propane, check for leaks before lighting up.

And remember: charcoal goes in the grillโ€ฆ not lighter fluid after itโ€™s already lit ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Have fun, enjoy the long weekend, honor those who gave everything for our country, and grill responsibly so we donโ€™t have to crash the BBQ. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿš’
