Lake County Ambulance Service

Lake County Ambulance Service LCAS is a private non-profit ambulance service that provides ambulance coverage to Lake County, as well as areas of St. Louis and Cook Counties

Currently, Lake County Ambulance Service (LCAS) staffs two stations. The base of operations is located in the city of Two Harbors with a substation in Silver Bay. LCAS has 30+ members with a mixture of EMTs and Paramedics. In October of 2013, LCAS became licensed at the Advanced Life Support level. Being able to provide an even higher level of advanced care at the scene of an incident and througho

ut transport is very beneficial to the health of our patients. LCAS is now even better equipped to handle critical patients at the scene and during transport. With this change patients also receive a higher level of care in the initial stages of treatment. Lake County Ambulance Service strives to provide the best possible patient care with the latest advanced technology equipment. Our employees continually attend training to keep up with current best practices in EMS.

EMT in the Schools Update:

Our 2nd EMT in the Schools class is moving along at a nice pace. They recently just earned their American Heart Association BLS CPR certification. Not only is this the first certification they obtain towards their EMT license, but it's also a milestone in the course as they are now preparing for their clinical rotations on the ambulance. Keep up the good work students!

This week we celebrate those voices on the other end of the radio. Our dispatchers are the reason we are able to provide care to those who need it. Without them, we would not be able to have the resources or the speed to care for somebody on their worst day. Thank you to the ones who answer that call and become the first step in the emergency response system. We couldn't do it without you!

Our 2nd EMS in the Schools class is now in its 3rd month. This group of EMT students have been learning and practicing weekly on skills like moving and securing patients, all while going through lectures and learning about body systems and EMS operations. With many more class and skills days to come, we're excited to see them grow into high quality EMTs!

And just when we thought it could have been over. We are in a blizzard warning until tomorrow afternoon with a lot of snow expected this afternoon through the night.

If you don't need to travel, please stay home. Driving conditions will be very poor. If for any reason you do need to travel, make sure to keep supplies in your vehicle like blankets, food, water, flashlight, gloves, and phone charger.

We are still available for 911 calls, however it may take us a substantial amount of time to get to some places. Our crews will make every effort to get there as quickly and safely as possible.

We hope everyone stays warm and safe. Spring is right around the corner!

It looks like our Spring weather didn't last long. Most of our service area is in a blizzard warning until Thursday. We ask that if you do not need to travel, stay home. Roads will be very slippery and snow will fall fast. If you do travel, make sure to have extra items in your vehicle, including a blanket, water, food, phone charger, flashlight, and warm clothes.

Clearing snow can cause a number of medical emergencies. If you do start to clear a large amount of snow, go easy and take plenty of breaks.

If you have an emergency we will respond as quickly as we can however, times may be longer depending on weather and road conditions. We are almost to Spring, we can get through this!

And with that, we close on another year of service. 2025 held a lot of first's for our service. Between a record number of calls and starting an EMT class, we definitely were busy.

In 2025, LCAS was called to service 1,583 times. This is the highest our call volume has ever been. We are so proud of our providers. Their professionalism, knowledge, and level of care they provide to our area is unmatched. We appreciate you all for stepping up and helping wherever you were needed. With covering overtime shifts, to helping teach our new generation of EMTs, we couldn't have done it without you.

And thank you to the public for all of the support and help along the way. We couldn't be here without you. We look forward to a great 2026! And stay tuned for more new things coming this year.
