Our mission is "to support the people of Lake County in protecting and conserving the land and waters through professional consultation, education, and resources." Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District is a Local Government Unit (LGU) established in 1965 to assist landowners with natural resource issues. Our mission is "to provide technical assistance to help property owners and local u

Happy Minnesota Fishing Opener Eve! If you're planning on getting out on the water in the Arrowhead Region this weekend (or any other time), there's a new tool that will help you know what invasive species are confirmed present in a waterbody!

Minnesota Arrowhead AIS is a browser-based app that allows you to search for a waterbody by map or text, learn about AIS present, and find tips for how to best CLEAN, DRAIN, and DRY your gear based on the specific species. Just go to www.tinyurl.com/ArrowheadAIS

You can still order bur oak, red oak, red pine, tamarack, and white spruce through our tree sale, which runs through April 27. But don't wait too long! Once stock sells out, it won't be available again until next year.

Descriptions of the remaining stock:

Bur Oak - Quercus macrocarpa
Acorns attract various wildlife, including white tailed deer and ruffed grouse. Tolerates drought, occasional flooding, and clay soils.

Red Oak - Quercus rubra
Fast growing oak tree. Prefers deep, well-drained loam or clay soils. Tolerates dry sandy soils. Acorns attract various wildlife.

Red Pine - Pinus resinosa
Also called Norway Pine. Tolerates a range of poor soil conditions. Full sun and well drained, sandy soils are best.

Tamarack - Larix laricina
Needles turn golden in fall and shed in winter. Prefers wet sites and full sun. Tolerates clay. Fast grower.

White Spruce - Picea glauca
Very shade tolerant. Tolerates a wide range of soil and sunlight conditions. Not typically browsed by deer.

Attention forestry industry contractors in the Arrowhead: check out this upcoming free workshop from Dovetail Partners to get help deciphering government contracting processes, learn about current and future hand and mechanical work projects on public and private lands, and discuss challenges the industry faces. Lake SWCD will be in attendance in Two Harbors, so see you there!

This workshop qualifies for 3 hours of MN Logger Education Program credit.

The two options are:

APRIL 28, 2026: 1 PM - 4 PM
