If you’re in the area, you may notice a few of our officers at the Tybee Island Maritime Academy this morning. We’ve been invited to discuss how to enjoy the beach responsibly with the Kindergarten class.

As a special treat, our presentation may include demonstrations of our patrol vehicles’ lights and sirens. It’s important to know that this is a scheduled visit, and our presence is not the result of an emergency at the Tybee Island Maritime Academy.

If an actual emergency were to occur, we would keep you informed by coordinating with local media outlets, while also providing updates and issuing further instructions via this page.

For many people, running a marathon would be a major achievement. For K9 Tosca, it’s a Tuesday. A small package containing an endless amount of energy, this little beauty has an unwavering dedication to duty!

Originally from S.A.K9 Solutions in Germany, Tosca was trained for narcotics detection by Kilo 2 Working Dog Kennels in Tennessee. Following her graduation, Tosca was donated to our agency by the non-profit Irondog K9 International, saving us an estimated $14,000 in the process. For almost two years, Tosca has proudly supplemented our agency’s strength alongside her handler on patrol.

There’s no telling what kind of chaos led to Rocky’s original owner surrendering him to an animal shelter at just a year old, but it’s a good thing they did! After being adopted by the Tybee Island Police Department in 2020, Rocky became the first dog ever to work for our agency.

Of course, he isn’t your typical police dog. Instead of sniffing out bombs, drugs, or bad guys, Rocky’s whole job is to make people smile! For more than 6 years, he has proudly served the residents and guests of the island as our Public Relations K9.

With friends and followers across the world, he’s been invited to visit schools, churches, summer camps, nursing homes, and even a RV rally! When he’s not attending community events, he can often be found cheering up his teammates, or meeting new people on the street.

During the course of his decorated career, Rocky has also helped raise donations for several charities, including The Georgia Police K9 Foundation, Irondog K9 International, Friends of Oatland Island, Toys for Tots, One Love Animal Rescue, and Hugaroo, Inc.

Last year, Rocky’s story took 2nd place in the national “Remember Me Thursday” contest, scoring 100 pet toys, 1,000lbs of dog food, and $1,500 for his former shelter, the Humane Society for Greater Savannah.

Good morning, everybody!

A few of our Professional Staff members decided to show off their talent and creativity by challenging one another to an art contest. Now that the paint is dry and the felt has been dealt, they’re asking for YOUR help in choosing a champion.

According to the guidelines, each entry should reflect one or more of the values of community engagement, positivity, and camaraderie, while also honoring the mission and spirit of the Tybee Island Police Department.

We’re proud to announce that Captain Emory Randolph has completed FBI-LEEDA’s Five Star Chief Executive Institute! This two-week course helps prepare law enforcement leaders for the many challenges faced by modern police chiefs and public safety executives. During the 18-module program, participants discussed a variety of real world topics including Leadership Integrity, Crisis Communications, Law Enforcement Wellness, and International Public Safety Impact.

A veteran law enforcement officer with over 24 years of experience, Emory Randolph previously served in his hometown of Waynesboro, Georgia, before relocating to The Coastal Empire and joining the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team. During that time, he worked alongside local, state, and federal agencies, while gaining a wealth of knowledge regarding drug investigations and undercover operations.

Since joining the Tybee Island Police Department in June 2010, he has held various roles, including patrol officer, shift supervisor, Patrol Division Commander, and Public Information Officer. In that capacity, he has implemented innovative strategies to enhance transparency and community engagement through social media, public appearances, and award-winning initiatives such as “Operation Starlight” and “K9 For a Day". To date, the latter program has helped find loving homes for over 90 animals in need. In addition to his regular duties, Randolph is a certified law enforcement instructor and serves as the handler for our Public Relations K9, Rocky.
