Imagine being given one award by a local organization, and a second one voted on by your peers, all while being part of the team for less than a year!

Since joining the Tybee Island Police Department in January, Officer Jacob Kersey has consistently proven himself to be dedicated to his teammates, and our community. It is that same steadfast dedication that led to Kersey being chosen as the American Legion’s Officer of the Year. Less than 24 hours later, he learned that he had also been named as the Officer of the Quarter by popular vote of his coworkers.

We’re proud of the hard work Officer Kersey and his teammates put in every day, as they strive to make the island an even safer place to live, work, and play!

Spooky season is upon us! As the veil between worlds thins, all manner of tiny ghosts and goblins will surge forth seeking sweet treats on the island. That’s why we need YOUR help!

Traditionally, seasonal events receive hundreds, if not thousands of visitors. That’s why collects candy donations to assist in offsetting the costs of residents and organizations that participate. You can help by dropping off unopened bags of candy any time, day or night.

When we work together, we make Tybee an even better place to live, work, or get a fright!

Morning.

As we continue to work on last week’s recap, we wanted to go ahead and share a few numbers related to our team’s activity over Pirate Fest weekend:

🔵 Between Friday, October 9th and Sunday,
October 11th, officers of the Tybee Island
Police Department made 10 arrests.

🔵 During that same time period, our team also
issued 20 traffic citations.

🟡 Over the course of the weekend, the Tybee
Island 911 center handled 100 calls for
service.

Settin’ sail for Tybee Island Pirate Fest this weekend? Here’s a few things every swashbuckler and scallywag should know before droppin’ anchor on the island:

🏴‍☠️ There’s a possibility that we’ll welcome
THOUSANDS of guests to the island this
weekend. Plan for the possibility of heavy
traffic and be prepared for delays.

🏴‍☠️ There will be limited parking. The 16th-18th
street beachside lots are expected to close
Wednesday, October 7th, and remain
closed for the duration of the event. Instead
of parking, these lots will house the
“Thieves Market” and festival area.

🏴‍☠️ This is an “All Hands on Deck” event for
TIPD. Team members across all divisions
will be on duty this weekend. We’ll also be
working alongside Fire, EMS, Ocean
Rescue, and Code Compliance personnel
to help you stay safe while you celebrate.

🏴‍☠️ Pirate Fest is a FAMILY-FRIENDLY event.
Criminal behavior will not be tolerated. State
and local laws are in effect and will be
enforced.

🏴‍☠️ It’s important to remember that our crew has
your best interests at heart. Follow the
instructions of all emergency personnel and
do your part!

🏴‍☠️ Celebrate responsibly. If your plans include
alcohol, it’s important to ensure that you
have a safe and sober ride home.

🏴‍☠️ If an emergency should occur, we’ll make
every effort to keep you updated via this
page. Be sure to like and follow us to ensure
you don’t miss important information.

🏴‍☠️ Lastly, we ask that you be kind to one
another, keep your hands to yourself, and
have a great time!
