Join Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and our partners for a free event all about nature, prescribed fire and how it benefits humans and wildlife alike!

This is the third annual East Texas Fire and Nature Festival!

Join us for a day of nature-based hands-on activities aimed at families, as well as short, guided walks and special speaker presentations. There will be a variety of fire engines and equipment on-site and live demonstrations of prescribed fire. The fire demonstrations are weather-dependent. We also have door prizes!

There are also a variety of self-guided activities and demonstrations for you to explore, including but not limited to:

Engine Hose Challenges
Native Seed Balls
Skins & Skulls
Make a Wildlife Track

Fun with Foam
Fly Fishing, and more!

This event will take place across a variety of surfaces, including asphalt, pavement, and multiple improved surface types.

Something new just dropped at Tyler State Park!

We’ve added movable hammock stands to the amphitheater area — the perfect spot to chill under the trees or hang out by the lake.

Huge shoutout to our local Boy Scout troop for building 4 hammock stands AND donating 6 hammocks for everyone to enjoy!

The hammocks will be out this weekend for anyone to try. After that, you can swing by Park HQ and rent one for free anytime during normal hours of operation.

Come relax, unwind, and enjoy the park in a whole new way! 🌳😌

Tomorrow our sign ups for Parktober will go live (8/26/2026) at noon! So mark your calendars! Set your alarms! Once the clock hits 12 the link will activate and allow submissions.

Reservations will be made through our link and that link can be found in multiple places like our state park events page, facebook events page, and this post will have the link as well.

Exciting News for Our Anglers! 🐟🎣

Our team, working alongside Inland Fisheries, has recently installed new artificial fish habitats in the lake. These structures are designed to give fish additional places to spawn, especially in areas that previously lacked suitable habitat. This improvement may lead to healthier fish populations and create even more opportunities for our bank anglers to enjoy successful fishing trips.

During installation, we also checked our sonar and were pleased to see plenty of active spawning beds. Even better, vegetation across the lakebed is flourishing—another great sign of a healthy, thriving environment.

We’re excited to share this progress with you, and we hope it makes your time at the lake even more enjoyable.

Park Alert!! ⚠️🚨⚠️🚨

Tyler State Park and Smith County is under a burn ban. ❌🔥❌

Open flames are prohibited during a burn ban but there are exceptions. People are still allowed to cook food in a grill or smoker that contains all open flames and have enclosed lids.

We will update you if there are any changes to the burn ban or if it has been lifted!

Stay Safe at Tyler State Park!

There’s plenty of fun to be had at Tyler State Park, but your safety is just as important. Before heading out on the trails or the lake, be sure to pack the essentials: water, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.

Hot Weather Alert:
Temperatures are rising! If you plan to rent a boat, please call ahead or check the forecast. When the heat index (the “feels like” temperature) reaches 100°F or higher, boat rentals will be unavailable.
