Austin Elementary School - Tyler ISD The official Tyler ISD page of Austin Elementary School. The school was named for Thomas Jessie Austin, the principal of Emmett J. Scott School. Mr.

Austin, a scholarly Fisk University graduate, came to Tyler from Brownsville, Tennessee. This tall, quiet educator was strong and courageous in his convictions and emphasized the importance of character, self-respect, and industry to his students. Austin served as a member of the Board of Stewards for St. James CME Church for 20 years and as a Sunday-school teacher for 44 years. He was also presid

ent of the Westview Cemetery Association. At the age of 92 he was presented with the coveted Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America for outstanding service. Austin died in 1959.

Countless students soared beyond their goals and exceeded expectations in attendance, end-of-nine-weeks grades, and so many other amazing accomplishments. The T.J. Austin faculty and staff were thrilled to celebrate our wonderful Assistant Principal, Amy Hopson, with lots of supplies, thoughtful gift cards, sweet congratulations, and joyful well wishes as she prepares to become a soon-to-be mom of three! 🍼🩵

Our precious Headstart graduates officially crossed the enchanted bridge into kindergarten! The classroom was overflowing with proud parents, loving family members, faculty, and joyful smiles as we celebrated this special promotion day together 🎓💙.

A huge round of applause to our incredible T.J. Austin Headstart Team for working so hard to prepare our Little Lobos for this exciting new chapter. Their dedication helped plant the seeds for a bright future ahead! Graduates and their families also enjoyed a wonderful breakfast filled with gifts, laughter, hugs, picture-taking, and unforgettable memories.
