Smith County Animal Control & Shelter Through our Field Services, we aim to protect community members and neglected animals by enforcing laws and educating the public.

Through our Shelter Services we provide quality care and seek positive outcomes for all animals that come through our doors. This page is for dialog between the Animal Control Division and the citizens of Smith County. We understand that this can be an emotionally charged topic for many, but we ask that all comments be positive and constructive. We’re asking for the public’s help identifying the person and truck shown in this video.

On June 20, 2026, this individual chose to abandon multiple puppies in front of a community office on Lake Palestine. Apparently, the plan was to unload the puppies and drive away. Unfortunately for them, the plan also involved doing it in front of a camera.

If you recognize the truck, the driver, or have any information that may help identify this individual, please contact Smith County Animal Control.

Abandoning animals is not rehoming. It is not rescue. It is not a responsible surrender. It is a crime.

If this guy is a friend that owes you money, an ex that left you with all the bills, or your cousin who has been “borrowing” your tools since 2019, the management of the community is offering a $500 reward for information leading to his identification.

And just like that… a meet and greet, a few cuddles, plenty of kisses, and the decision was made!

Rowena is adopted!

It was already a marvelous Monday filled with new puppies, meet-and-greets, and happy adoptions. Just when we thought the day was winding down, this incredible family walked through our doors.

Ten minutes later, “We want her!”

We think Rowena understood exactly what was happening. Her tail never stopped wagging, kisses were freely given, and excitement sparkled through every inch of her little body. It was as if she was saying, “You picked me! You really picked me!”

Today, Rowena traded her shelter kennel for a future filled with love, soft beds, belly rubs, and a family to call her very own.
She is off to new adventures , new friends and new family.

💕 Naz Has Found Her Forever Home! 💕🌧️

A huge thank you to this wonderful couple for adopting Naz!

They drove all the way from Crockett through pouring rain to meet our puppies and see if one might be the perfect addition to their farm — especially for the goats. 🐐

Naz is a 4-month-old puppy from a litter of 12 adorable babies. Each one was a roly-poly bundle of love with a personality all their own. We knew choosing just one would be no easy task!

As we stepped back and watched, five puppies bounced around, played, and eagerly introduced themselves. Then, in a moment that felt meant to be, the decision was made.

Before anyone could say, “Adopt me!” Naz had already chosen her family.
Congratulations, sweet Naz! We can’t wait to see all the adventures ahead as you grow up on the farm, make friends with the goats, and spend every day surrounded by love.

💕 Fabulous Friday Gratitude 💕

Today we want to give another heartfelt thank you to one of our incredible rescue partners, SPCA East Texas.

When one of our Animal Control Officers brought in this precious mama, Paloma, and her six tiny puppies, we knew they would need extra care and support. As soon as SPCA East Texas saw our plea for help, they didn’t hesitate. They immediately stepped forward and opened their hearts to this little family.

We are thrilled to share that Paloma and all six of her babies are thriving in their care. Seeing this sweet family safe, healthy, and loved reminds us why partnerships matter so much.

We are honored to stand alongside the dedicated staff and volunteers at SPCA East Texas as we continue making a difference, one life at a time.

Thank you for being heroes to Paloma and her puppies.

Two Sisters… One Close Family… One Very Lucky Puppy! 🐾

Congratulations to these wonderful sisters on adopting Crowley, one of the four puppies we brought to our adoption event at East Texas Brewing!

Crowley is a sweetheart who would much rather be cradled in your arms like a baby than walk on his own. From the moment he arrived, he captured hearts with his gentle nature and loving personality.

Now this little guy is headed for a life filled with everything a puppy could dream of—a big yard to explore, a big family to love him, and plenty of big adventures waiting around every corner.

Nola, who has beautiful blue eyes and the biggest heart, attracted lots of attention, belly rubs and scratches at East Texas Brewing adoption event
But when this couple took her out of her kennel , she looked at them with those big blues as if asking “ Can I be yours?”
