🚨 Burning Safety Reminder 🚨

We are seeing an increase in people burning brush, fields, and trash piles without proper planning, equipment, or manpower to keep those fires contained. With the current dry and windy conditions, this is a recipe for disaster.

Please remember—fires can spread quickly and get out of control in a matter of minutes.

Our fire departments are volunteer-based, meaning these men and women are balancing emergency calls with full-time jobs and family responsibilities. When preventable fires occur, it puts unnecessary strain on limited resources and puts lives and property at risk.

⚠️ Before you burn:
Make sure weather conditions are safe (low wind, adequate moisture)

Have proper tools and water supply ready

Ensure enough people are present to monitor and control the fire

Never leave a fire unattended

We are asking everyone to use extreme caution when burning. Let’s work together to keep our community safe and avoid having to enforce another county-wide burn ban.
Thank you for your cooperation. 🔥🚒

⚠️ WEATHER ALERT – PLEASE STAY WEATHER AWARE TONIGHT ⚠️
As strong storms move toward Tylertown and Walthall County this evening into tonight, we want to remind everyone to stay alert and prepared. Almost a year ago, our community experienced the devastating tornado that tore through Walthall County and the 4th District, leaving behind destruction, damaged homes, and heartbreaking loss of life. Many families are still rebuilding and healing from that night. Events like that remind us just how quickly severe weather can change lives.

Please take tonight’s storms seriously:

• Have a way to receive weather alerts while you sleep
• Know where your safe place is in your home
• Charge your phones and devices
• Be ready to take shelter if warnings are issued

We share this not to cause fear, but to remind everyone how important it is to be prepared and stay aware.
Let’s look out for one another and keep our community safe.

Tonight our county held our first quarterly meeting for this year, which included important Narcan training to help us stay prepared to serve our community in every type of emergency.

The food was great and the fellowship was even better!

A big thank you to Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department for hosting and for the hospitality. We also appreciate the representation from 4th District VFD, 3rd District VFD, Enon VFD, Tylertown VFD, and Lexie VFD. Also thanks to Walthall County Sheriff's office, Tylertown Police Department, and 5th District supervisor Mr Billy Bridges for attending.

Many thanks to Mississippi Public Health Institute for sending Mr John Conway to present an informative and educational presentation to our attendees.

Departments working together makes Walthall County stronger and better prepared. Thank you all for your continued dedication and service!

Space heaters can be a fire hazard if not properly used.
The three foot space is very important
Also you don’t need to use extension cords to power heaters. If you have to use extension cord, make sure it is at least a 12 gauge cord.
Whatever method of heating your home, be sure to be cautious. Fire places and wood heaters can also be dangerous.
Be safe and try to stay warm !!!
