My US 98/ TAFB FDOT is elevating the U.S. 98 travel lanes above the Tyndall Drive/Airey Avenue and Louisiana Avenue intersections on Tyndall AFB.

This is the official page for the Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) U.S. 98 flyover at Tyndall AFB. Construction began in Fall 2019 on the $21 million effort to improve mobility on U.S. 98 and enhance security for Tyndall Air Force Base. The project focuses on an approximately one-mile section of U.S. 98 centered on the installation’s main gate at the Airey Avenue/Tyndall Driv

e intersection. The two U.S. 98 travel lanes will be elevated above Tyndall’s main entrance. Further east, a second overpass will be constructed above Louisiana Avenue to allow base traffic to travel between the support facilities on the south side of the installation and the flight line on the north side without the need to pass through the security checkpoint at the main gate. It is estimated that more than 36,000 drivers travel this section of U.S. 98 daily. The project is a collaborative effort involving FDOT, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and Tyndall’s 325 Fighter Wing. Your participation is welcome, but comments must comply with the policy found in the "Notes" section of this page. General Inquiries:

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

As many travel to gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us also take a moment to reflect on the freedoms made possible by those we remember today.

Motorcycles are part of everyday traffic, but they can be easy to miss without a second look.

Simple habits like checking blind spots, staying focused, and allowing extra space can reduce the risk of serious crashes.

As more riders take to the road this time of year, awareness from drivers plays an important role in keeping everyone moving safely.

A little extra attention goes a long way.

As temperatures rise and summer draws near, more people take to two wheels, whether riding for their daily commute or cruising the open road.

Motorcyclists account for 15% of all traffic fatalities nationwide, and bicyclists continue to face serious risks as well. In 2024, 1,103 bicyclists were killed in traffic crashes nationwide.

Moments like turning, crossing or changing lanes are where attention matters most. A quick second look can prevent a life-changing mistake.

Two wheels. One shared responsibility.

From May 11-31, law enforcement agencies across Florida are increasing patrols with a focus on seat belt use to reduce serious injuries and fatalities.

Seat belts continue to save lives. In 2024, 48% of passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes were unrestrained, a reminder of how critical this simple step can be.

It takes just a moment to buckle up, and it can make all the difference.
