Release on the Tabor Rec Fire;
On Tuesday April 21st a controlled burn was conducted by the Bon Homme Colony. The burn was lit early in the day and burned into the night. On the morning of April 22nd much of the fire was out or contained. An wooded area on the North end of the prescribed burn flared up yesterday afternoon and a member of the Bon Homme Colony contacted Bon Homme Dispatch requesting aid. Tabor Fire, Springfield Fire, Tyndall Fire, Avon Fire, Scotland Fire, and Yankton Fire fought strong winds and intense blazes from early in the afternoon into the dark of night. Due to their courageous service to our community, ZERO houses were lost. No injuries were reported. We do report 1 small shed was lost in the fire yesterday.
With the winds switching out of the West today April 23rd, the Bon Homme County Emergency Manager brought in a strike team from the Black Hills to assist today. The goal is to reach full containment and we're doing everything we can. There is still active fire between 310th and 311th streets and East of 427th Ave South of 311th. We ask the public to stay out of these areas until the fires have reached full containment.
Next time you see a fireman, Thank them. These guys are not just Volunteers, they are Professionals and Heros.
