Friends and Supporters:

I regret to inform you that the American Armor Foundation, Inc. will cease operation effective December 31, 2021. I started this organization in 2015 with the mission to provide body armor to underfunded agencies. At the time, there were an estimated 200,000 American police officers working without body armor.

While we did not eliminate this issue, we did our best to make an impact and I believe we were successful. I will never forget the feeling of handing an officer his or her first vest or the expressions of gratitude from the officers and agencies that we helped!

We made the difficult decision to cease operations based on several factors, but the leading reasons were difficulty in raising funds (getting buy in for this cause is extremely difficult) and changes in my position (I was promoted from Police Chief to Town Manager 3 years ago) that require more of my time and attention.

The remaining funds in our operating account have been distributed equally ($4,270.00 each) among four police departments for the purchase of safety equipment for their officers and an additional $1,000.00 was donated to the Fayette County Accountability Court Team (FACT), an organization that supports Fayette County's DUI, Veteran, and Mental Health court program at the State Court level. I serve on the FACT board and the work that the organization does and the differences they make in the lives of participants is very dear to me.

The Board and I are beyond thankful for all of your support over the last 6 years!

"Most troubling...is that many rural departments didn’t have access to bulletproof vests, were working with faulty radios and had no means to update basic technology."

The need for what we do is very real! Officers in rural areas deserve the same life-saving equipment that their larger city brothers and sisters take for granted.

If we could get 1000 people to donate just $5 per month, we could provide 130 officers with body armor over the next 12 months! Imagine what we could do if only 10,000 of America's 700,000+ LEOs donated $5 per month!

Attracting recruits to work for rural police departments is increasingly difficult, especially as most new officers choose to work in better staffed and better paying urban areas.

The Sharkey County, MS Sheriff's Office is no longer working without body armor thanks to ONE caring individual who took notice and got the funding together to help us get them equipped. That same individual got neighboring Issaquena County covered last year.

We target agencies who employ 10 or fewer officers and serve populations of 10,000 or less. These agencies are most likely to be underfunded, but they've also experienced the 2nd highest number of officers murdered over the past 10 years - second only to cities with more than 250k citizens - according to the FBI's LEOKA numbers for 2017.

We've been considering the need for a dedicated vehicle for use in special events and parades, etc. for quite some time. Now, we're taking steps to make that happen, but we need your help. It doesn't have to be money...it could be as simple as a post SHARE!

I was "safe". Why did I let these guys talk me into putting myself out there again? Because I saw how appreciative those deputies in Issaquena County were to get their body armor today. It put new fire in me to do whatever it takes to see our mission accomplished!

The deputies of the Issaquena County Sheriff's Office are equipped with brand new body armor now thanks to a handful of local citizens who saw the need and partnered with us to get them covered! Six more heroes protected!

Join us Friday morning as we present the body armor that arrived at AAF headquarters this week to a very deserving agency in Mississippi. We’ll hopefully post some content starting tomorrow as we take this lightning fast road trip across three states to get these vests into the hands of the officers and on the street protecting them.
