The Granite Construction 26th Annual Chili Cook-Off, held on Sept. 6 at Alex R. Thomas Plaza in Ukiah, was a resounding success, attracting over a thousand attendees and raising substantial funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Ukiah.
This year’s event saw a standout performance by Community Care, a local non-profit organization serving Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma, which won both the People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice awards for their exceptional chili.
Community Care’s winning recipe was a hit with both the public and the judges, thanks to its use of high-quality ingredients. Holly Brownfield of Community Care shared, “We used four types of organic meats, local heirloom tomatoes, and poblano chilis from local gardens to create our award-winning chili.” Their commitment to using locally sourced and organic ingredients resonated with the attendees, contributing to their double victory.
The annual cook-off has become a cherished community event, offering a day of culinary delights and local camaraderie while supporting a worthy cause. This year’s event underscored the community’s dedication to both great food and philanthropy, with the funds raised going directly to support the Boys and Girls Club of Ukiah."
