☀️ Summer means more time outdoors—but it also means more mosquitoes, ticks, and other biting insects!

Protect yourself and your family by using an EPA-registered insect repellent whenever you're spending time outside. Repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus can help prevent bites and reduce the risk of illnesses spread by insects and ticks.

🦟 Apply repellent according to the product label.
🌳 Wear long sleeves and pants when possible, especially in wooded or grassy areas.
✔️ Check yourself, your children, and your pets for ticks after spending time outdoors.
🏡 Reduce standing water around your home to help prevent mosquito breeding.

A few simple precautions can help you enjoy a safer, bite-free summer!

🏠👧👦 Is Your Child Ready to Stay Home Alone?

As children grow, parents often wonder when it's appropriate to allow them to stay home by themselves. While every child matures at a different pace, being home alone requires more than age—it requires responsibility, confidence, and safety awareness.

Before leaving your child home alone, make sure they:
✅ Know how and when to call 9-1-1
✅ Can recognize fire alarms and severe weather warnings
✅ Know emergency contact information
✅ Understand basic first aid and home safety rules
✅ Know not to answer the door or tell others they are home alone
✅ Have clear expectations for chores, homework, and household rules

Our Home Alone Checklist is a helpful tool for families to discuss safety plans, emergency contacts, and expectations before children stay home by themselves. Taking time to prepare can help keep your child safe and confident when home alone.

📄 Check out the attached checklist and use it as a guide to help determine if your child is ready.
