Suspects Located After Fleeing From Motor Vehicle Accident in Preston

On 8/28/2026 at approximately 3:37 pm, Troop E Troopers responded to the intersection of RT. 164 and Old Shetucket Rd. in the town of Preston for a 3 car motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, victims and witnesses stated two male suspects from the at fault vehicle had fled from the scene and ran into the woods.

Troopers established a perimeter and K9 Zedo conducted a track from the at fault vehicle. K9 Zedo tracked approximately .5 miles through thick woods and deep swamp, locating both suspects hiding. Both suspects were taken into custody and escorted from the woods without further incident.

On 08/28/2026 at approximately 0509 hours an unknown individual forced entry into Davids Cafe located at 134 RT 12 in the town of Preston, CT. Items stolen consisted of US currency and a bottle of alcohol. Connecticut State Police, Troop E is investigating a larceny that took place on 08/15/2026 at approximately 3:30 p.m. at Lowes in Lisbon in which over $8,000 worth of merchandise was stolen. A white male was seen on surveillance footage taking the stolen items and leaving in a white Kia SUV bearing CT Handicapped REG 945K. The plate was later reported stolen and does not belong on this vehicle. Anyone with info relating to the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Trooper Winn #1416 at CT State Police Troop E 860-848-6500. RE: case #2600256517.

🚧🚧I-395 Southbound in Norwich Closed🚧🚧

Troopers from Troop E are investigating motor vehicle accident that has resulted in the closure of Interstate 395 southbound in Norwich between exits 13 and 11, exit 36 off of RT 2 eastbound is also closed.

This closure maybe for an extended period of time. Please avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes of travel.

🚧🚧Interstate 95 Southbound Closed at Exit 88 in Groton🚧🚧

Troopers from Troop E along with fire and ems services have responded to motor vehicle accident on I-95 southbound in Groton. The southbound side of I-95 is closed at exit 88. Traffic is being routed off the highway there.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area for the length of the closure. Please refer to DOT’s diversion plan below for an alternative route of travel.

🚧🚧Interstate 395 Northbound Closure🚧🚧

Troop E, Norwich Fire Department, CT DOT, and DEEP are responding to a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 395 Northbound north of exit 14 in the town of Norwich. I-395 northbound between exits 14 and 18 is closed.

The closure is expected to be lengthy and motorists should avoid the area and attempt to find alternate routes of travel.

Our troopers at Troop E never know what type of call their next one is going to be.

That was certainly the case earlier this afternoon when Trooper First Class Workman responded to a call for help from a woman who had discovered a snake loose in her car while driving on Route 2 near Foxwoods.

TFC Workman was able to wrangle the unwanted hitchhiker from the caller's car despite the slippery nature of the accused.
