Last night the Town Council voted 6-0 in favor of our new contract. This now marks the first time since 2022 we have not been engaged in some form of litigation with the Town whether it was negotiations, arbitration, or court proceedings. We would like to thank the Mayor for the long hours he spent with our negotiating committee to get this contract across the finish line. The contract better protects our firefighters by offering cancer screenings, PTSD language, training opportunities and overall better conditions which help us serve you, the public, more effectively. We look forward to keeping this positive momentum and working with the Town to help push the Montville fire service forward. There is still much work to be done collaboratively, but this is a critical step towards maintaining progress and promoting a positive labor-management relationship.

After a two-year legal battle between Montville Professional Firefighters Local 3386 and the Town of Montville, a final ruling was issued by the Connecticut Appellate Court in favor of the Firefighters.

Directly following the ruling, the Mayor made the determination to put two firefighters at Oakdale Co. 4 and Mohegan Co. 2 24/7 a move focused on providing the best possible emergency coverage for the residents of Montville. Our union agreed that staffing both Oakdale and Mohegan districts with our current staffing levels is in the best interest of the town, public safety and the firefighters who respond everyday to protect this community.

Despite this progress and clear path forward for improved coverage just days later the town council voted down the firefighters union contract.

Our members remain committed to serving this town with professionalism, dedication and pride. We will continue advocating for fair treatment proper staffing and the resources needed to keep both our firefighters and community safe.

The reality is that Montville encounters the same challenge, and experiences longer response times due to staffing issues

With response times exceeding 9 – 25 minutes in some rural areas, lawmakers are backing a bill to create a public EMS dashboard to improve transparency and guide resource allocation
