Sheriff Shaun Golden, Surrogate Maureen T. Raisch, and I are inviting all fourth grade students in the County to enter the ‘My County’ poster contest, 🖍️ sponsored by the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey.

Since the majority of fourth graders study the State of New Jersey as part of their social studies curriculum, all fourth grade students are encouraged to create his or her own poster. The posters should showcase special and unique aspects of Monmouth County and how they relate to County Government.

Sheriff Golden, Surrogate Raisch, and I will select the winning posters from the entries and the top three poster winners will receive prizes. Nine posters will receive honorable mention and each of the twelve posters will be on display at the Monmouth County Clerk's Office.

Please mail or deliver posters to the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office no later than Monday, May 2, 2022.

CLAIM V. TRUTH:

CLAIM: Our opponents claim that they can get the Army Corp Flood Protection Project more quickly

TRUTH: The Army Corp Flood Protection Project will cost approximately $202 million dollars. Between the Federal & State Governments, THEY WILL PAY $183 million of that cost.

Unless our opponents can find $202 million dollars, the project will start when Washington & Trenton say's it will.

And they, Feds and State are saying the second half of 2016.

Our Union Beach Road Reconstruction Map...

This is the progress we have made throughout the years to improve and beautify our roads, neighborhoods and make significant infrastructure repairs to our sewer & storm drain system....

* Note: this map is a few years old and does not include improvements to Orange, Harrison, Johnson Ave's...the raising of the intersection at 3rd/Pine and storm drain work, parts of 7th done this year along with Central, West & Isabelle Ave...

As always, we pursue and utilize grants from NJDOT, Community Development Block Grants and all other sources available.

We know we have more roads to do and WE WILL get them all...a little at a time as we can afford.

We noticed today that our opponents are claiming that if elected they will...

"conduct an operational audit to identify and eliminate waste"

Please follow the link below to view the Union Beach 2014 Audit. Which is conducted EVERY YEAR as dictated by State Law.

Unless they are talking about conducting another audit, which costs approximately $35k to perform, in which case would represent "waste"...

“On behalf of the borough of Union Beach I would like to thank the Governor, Lt. Governor and their staff, Commissioner Martin and his staff, the Army Corps of Engineers, all of our councilmembers present and past, Ed Broberg, Dennis Dayback and T&M Associates,” said Mayor Paul Smith, Jr. “This has been a project we have been working on since 1995 and to finally see our dream come true is truly a special day for Union Beach. I believe there are many residents who will be truly elated at this wonderful news. Our opponents claim:

"Our rebuilding progress is still stagnant"

FACT:

As of September 2015:

* Total Estimated Cost of Construction since Superstorm Sandy...$101,481,219.00

* Homes Demoed since Sandy: 303

* Homes raised since Sandy: 209

* New homes constructed since Sandy: 215

(Union Beach Construction Office Report September 2015)

JUST THIS YEAR....

We have rebuilt and continue to improve our vital infrastructre. This year alone (2015), we have reconstructed Central Avenue, West Street & Isabelle Avenue.

We continue working on our parks and ball fields to enhance the facilities for our children. The "Turf Maintenance" program continues for our soccer, baseball and softball fields.

We have just moved to Phase V of our Scholer Park Improvement Project which includes enhancing landscaping, installing benches, picnic tables and additional security cameras. This project and all projects at Scholer Park are funded in part by grants from the Monmouth County Open Space Program.

We have submitted an application to the Monmouth County Open Space Program for 2016 Improvements to Scholer Park Phase VII, which, if approved will include an expansion of the parking lot and additional lighting.

Utilizing and Emphasizing Shared Services Agreements with Monmouth County for repairs and purchasing to save money. Also, using Shared Services with Keyport for Deputy AdmInistrator of Vital Statistics, which is saving the Borough roughly $ 50,000 per year in salary & benefits and finally expanding our Shared Services Agreement with Union Beach Memorial School to assist the BOE with the paving of the back parking lot to save money!

This is only a fraction of all of the wonderful thing's taking place in our community. All geared to improve our commuity, enhance our quality of life and SAVE MONEY!

Our opponents have attended a total of 2 meetings ALL YEAR...COMBINED! Asked NO Questions and offered NO Ideas!

WE are Proud of our record and are looking forward to all of the Great thing's we have in store for our community for 2016 and beyond!

We Thank all of you for your continued support!!!

Union Beach Army Corp of Engineers
Shorefront Protection Project

There has been some confusing information being circulated around the Borough of regarding this project. We would like to clarify for the residents some of the facts related to the cost of the project and the Borough’s responsibility of those costs.

First of all……..of the $202,000,000 that this project will cost, Union Beach is NOT responsible for paying any amount before the project begins!

The Federal Government covers 65% of the cost. $131,300,000

The State and local entities are responsible
for the remaining 35% $70,700,000

The State has already agreed to pay $75% or $53,025,000

That leaves $17,675,000 to be covered by
local and county funds.

We have begun talks with several agencies and we will continue to reach out to others to reduce our part of the costs. We do not want to name specific agencies which might jeopardize the outcome of these talks.

It is our intention and our hope that Union Beach will incur NO COST of this project!

We believe that the residents of Union Beach have been through enough in the past three years and should not have to bear any cost for protecting our residents and our entire town in the future from the level of devastation we endured with Sandy.

However, in the event we do have to shoulder a minimal amount for this project to be completed, we are not responsible for making any payments prior to the completion of the project and even then, payments are spread over a 30 year period.

With election time drawing near, it is not unusual to hear some questionable information being circulated around town.
We call this time of year the “silly season”, because candidates will say the silliest things to try to get themselves elected.
We all hear it every year and on different levels of politics.

We trust that the residents of Union Beach are smart enough to see through the smoke and mirrors and not believe these scare tactics which can be very unsettling.

We post all of this information on the borough website and it is there for all to see.

We have put our phone numbers and e-mail addresses out for all to see and use.

If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you,

Paul, Albin and Charlie

Union Beach Residents this is advisory #1 on Hurricane Joaquin Thursday Oct 1st.

The National weather service and our Hurrevac program bring this storm very close to our shores. The path of this hurricane is constantly shifting and storm is very unpredictable. So this is what you can do to prepare at this time.

Let me explain we are going to get between 7 to 10 inches of rain on Friday and Saturday with moderate to major coastal flooding and winds between 30 to 45 mph.

THIS IS NOT FROM THE HURRICANE!

We will not see any effects of the hurricane until Sunday into Monday.

* We are going to use Bradlee’s parking lot again please park on the Poole Ave end of the parking lot.

* Please secure any propane tanks and any oil tanks in your yard.

* Also secure any boats, trailers or storage boxes you may have.

* Please fill your cars with gas and have some cash on hand.

* Gather any important papers, blanket and personal hygiene items should we need to order an evacuation.

Speaking of evacuation if you now live in an elevated home please do not get a false sense of security. Water pressure on the outside of your home could damage your foundation. YOU ARE STILL AT RISK!

If an order to evacuate is issued please evacuate.

High tides are as follows: high on Sunday is 1:20 am and 1:42 PM

and on

Monday it is 2:18 am and 2:38 pm.

Your Emergency Management are monitoring these two storms very closely and will keep you advised as needed until they are gone. Be Calm and be smart. Thank You.

I am happy to say that at the Borough Council meeting this past Thursday, we introduced an ordinance that will begin to give the borough a legal means in dealing with the numerous abandoned structures in Union Beach. These properties present a health hazard to all of the surrounding residents. They bring down your property value and detract from the hard work you have done to beautify your home. We cannot just let them sit there and continue to take away from our beautiful community. So many residents have put your own blood, sweat and tears along with all of your resources into getting back home after that awful storm. It is just not right that to let the big banks and mortgage corporations ruin our neighborhoods. We WILL hold them accountable. Not next year, but NOW!
