🚨 Public Safety Notice 🚨

The Union City Police Department and Union City Fire Department would like to advise the public that we are aware there is a small, remaining fire within the structure that burned down yesterday in thr 100 block of E. Oak Street.

Due to freezing temperatures and frozen hydrants, the decision was made not to expend additional water or resources on a structure that is already fully burned. Water resources are being conserved in the event they are needed for another emergency.

Both firefighters and police officers will be checking the property frequently throughout the night to ensure the fire remains controlled and contained within the structure.

🚫 Please do not call 911 regarding this incident, as emergency personnel are actively monitoring the situation.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation as we continue to prioritize public safety under challenging weather conditions.
Stay safe and warm.

At approximately 0100 hours this morning, the Union City Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire.

The incident was investigated by the Union City Police Department and it was determined that a homeless individual entered a vacant property and started a fire using a makeshift fireplace. An item fell, igniting the structure. Officers were able to locate the suspect, who admitted to starting the fire.

Mutual aid was provided by Ansonia, Rossburg, and Liberty Township.

During the incident, multiple hydrants on Oak Street in both Ohio and Indiana were out of service due to freezing, which resulted in a limited water supply.
