Do you know someone who has gone above and beyond to make Union City a better place? Now is your chance to recognize them!

Nominations for the 2026 Union City Citizen of the Year are now being accepted through Friday August 21st, 2026 at 4pm.

You can drop off or mail nominations to the Village Office (101 S Broadway St) or email nominations to Village Manager Chris Mathis at [email protected]. If you prefer a form, forms can be picked up at the Village Office or Union City Senior Center.

Nominees may be anyone who has made an extraordinary contribution to the betterment of Union City. Previous Citizen of the Year recipients are not eligible, and an alphabetical list of past recipients is attached for reference.

The winners will be awarded at this year's Farm to Fork event on Saturday September 26th, 2026.

The selection committee is made up of a member from the Union City Village Council, Union City Rotary, Union City Schools, American Legion Post 196, Garden Club, Area Church Association, and Village Staff.

The council established the award in 1981. Since that time 68 people have been honored with the award. A plaque hangs in the Village Office lobby with a list of all winners.

Union City is fortunate to have so many people who quietly give their time, talents, and hearts to make our community a better place. If someone comes to mind, please take a few minutes to nominate them. Let's continue celebrating the people who help make Union City such a special place to call home.

Congratulations, Tyler!

Please help us congratulate Union City Electric Department Lineman Tyler Diamond on his recent graduation from the Wolverine Power Cooperative Joint Michigan Apprenticeship Program!

Becoming a Journeyman Lineman is no small accomplishment. The apprenticeship is a four year program combining extensive classroom education with thousands of hours of hands-on training in the field.

And Tyler certainly had an eventful final year.

While completing his schooling, Tyler and our line crew responded to numerous extreme weather events here in Union City that required an enormous amount of line work and long hours restoring power to our community.

Most recently, Tyler and members of our crew also traveled to Sturgis to assist that community with recovery following a significant storm.

Tyler is a Union City High School graduate and lifelong area resident, which makes us especially proud to see him complete his apprenticeship and continue serving the community he grew up in.

Tyler now joins an already outstanding group of Linemen in our Village of Union City Electric Department.

Congratulations, Tyler! We’re proud of you and lucky to have you on our team!
