🚔📘 Back-to-School Safety Reminder from the Randolph Eastern School Corporation Police Department 📘🚔

As the new school year begins, the Randolph Eastern School Police Department encourages all community members to prioritize student safety. Whether children are walking, riding a bike, or taking the bus, we all have a responsibility to create a safe environment for their return to school.

Please review and follow these important safety guidelines:

🛑 School Bus Safety:
• Indiana law requires drivers to stop when a school bus has its stop arm extended and red lights flashing—regardless of the direction you're traveling, unless you're on a divided highway.
• Maintain a safe distance from buses and be prepared for frequent stops.
• Never attempt to pass a stopped bus.

🚶‍♂️Pedestrian Awareness:
• Watch for children walking to and from school, especially near crosswalks, intersections, and school zones.
• Reduce speed in school zones and follow all posted signage.
• Be vigilant in residential areas during morning and afternoon hours.

🚗 General Driving Reminders:
• Eliminate distractions and remain focused while driving, especially near school property.
• Obey all crossing guards and school staff directing traffic.
• Leave earlier to allow time for increased traffic around schools.

The safety of our students is a shared responsibility. We appreciate your cooperation and continued commitment to making this school year a safe and successful one for every child in our community.

If you have any questions or safety concerns, please get in touch with the Randolph Eastern School Corporation Police Department.

Today, on Peace Officer Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

Every year, we lose officers who run toward danger to protect others. In 2024 alone, over 120 officers across the U.S. died in the line of duty. Each one leaves behind a story, a family, and a legacy of courage.

This day is not just a time for reflection—it's a reminder of the risks our peace officers take every day and the importance of supporting them and their families, both in life and in loss.

To my fellow officers: Stay safe, stay strong. To those we've lost: We remember you. We honor you. We will never forget you. 💙🖤

We had a special guest star in our Look Into Law Enforcement class today! - Randolph Eastern School Corporation

Detective Chad Puterbaugh from the Randolph County Sheriff's Department stopped by to talk about his career and give our students a hands-on lesson in basic handcuffing techniques!

Our students were all ears—and wrists—as they practiced what they learned. They nailed it! At this rate, we might have some future officers ready to hit the streets (with supervision, of course)! 😉

Big thanks to Detective Puterbaugh for sharing his time, stories, and skills with our crew.

Today, our "A Look into Law Enforcement" class had an incredible opportunity to learn firsthand from our local partners at the Union City Police Department! Captain Mock and Sgt. James gave our students an up-close look at their Armored Vehicle, a vital tool used by the Special Entry Tactical Team (SETT).

Students didn’t just hear about the equipment—they got to climb inside, explore the vehicle, and even try on tactical gear! Captain Mock also shared valuable insight into the rigorous process of becoming a SETT team member and the critical role they play in keeping our community safe.

We are incredibly grateful for the strong partnership we have with UCPD and for their willingness to provide such an engaging and informative experience for our students. Thank you for your service and dedication! 💙🚔

Chris Shaneyfelt, Homeland Security / 911 Communications Director, took time out of his day to talk to our group about his career in Law Enforcement, as well as his current position in the Emergency Services Field. We are thankful to have such a great presentation from Chris.

Chief Bradbury and Officer Moore were able to spend time with one of our 8th grade students for Job Shadow Day at Union City Jr/Sr High School. They discussed what it takes to become a police officer, the hiring process, the police academy, different roles and functions of law enforcement, and answered several other questions. The student patrolled the campus with the officers, as well as visiting Vision Corner, Union City City Court, and the Union City Police Department, where they saw a K9 demonstration. It was a fun experience. 🔴⚪🔵👮🏻🚓
