This article is a great example of why our officers are proactive in traffic enforcement. A simple stop for an infraction often leads to discovery of further criminal activity.

Great work by our officers, and the assistance of our federal partners at the Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security Investigations.

Traffic stop in Union City uncovered 28 guns and fentanyl; couple gets 16 years in federal prison.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our partners at the Mustang Police Department for the loss of Lt. Blaine Condreay. Lt. Condreay previously worked as a police officer for Union City in the late 90's.

It is with very heavy hearts that we must share the passing of Lieutenant Blaine Condreay. Blaine passed away Tuesday morning at his home, after a very difficult battle with cancer. Blaine was surrounded by loved ones and co-workers throughout this battle, and will be greatly missed by all.

Blaine started with the Mustang Police Department in January of 2000, and faithfully served the Mustang Community for more than 26 years. He was a dedicated member of our Patrol Division throughout his career in Mustang, and he made a positive impact on those he served with as well as many throughout the community in which he served. Blaine’s service reached beyond the boundaries of the Mustang Community as he served for many years on the Canadian County Special Operations Team as a tactical team operator. He also proudly served his country as a 24-year member of the Oklahoma Army Air National Guard.

In honor of Blaine’s service and commitment to our community, a Memorial Celebration of Life is being planned in the coming days. Details of that service are pending and will be made public once finalized.

We would like to thank Canadian County District 2 who will be standing by, along with ODOT, to ensure US 81 and SW 59 stay passable. However, if you do not need to get out, please stay safe at home.
If you have not downloaded the Union City App to receive push notifications, it can be found on Google Play or the App store by searching “Union City, OK.”

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City of Lawton announces with profound sadness the passing of Lawton Police Chief James T. Smith, 66, who died on January 22, 2026.

Chief Smith dedicated more than 35 years to law enforcement and public service. His career began with the Kentucky State Police before continuing with the Jefferson County Police Department, which later merged into the Louisville Metro Police Department. There, he advanced through the ranks to Major and served as Special Operations Division Commander, overseeing numerous specialized units.

Since 2012, Chief Smith had served as Chief of Police for the Lawton Police Department, where he focused on strengthening community partnerships, supporting officer wellness, and building trust between the department and the residents it serves. His leadership and collaboration with civic and city leaders helped advance the City of Lawton’s vision for a new Public Safety Facility that will include a police headquarters, fire station, city jail, and municipal court.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Chief Smith proudly served 30 years in the military, including service in the Kentucky Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired in 2011 at the rank of Colonel, bringing the discipline and leadership of military service into his work in public safety.

Chief Smith was widely respected across Oklahoma and beyond. In 2024, he became the first officer from Lawton and Comanche County to receive the William “Bill” Tilghman Public Service Award from the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Hall of Fame. In 2025, the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police named him Large Agency Chief of the Year in recognition of his leadership, commitment to officer wellness, and service to the Lawton community.

“We are profoundly saddened by his passing,” said City Manager John Ratliff. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and respectfully ask the community to honor their need for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

“Chief Smith was more than a law enforcement leader,” said Mayor Stan Booker. “He was a mentor, a protector, and a steady presence for our city. Lawton is better because of his service, and our hearts are with his family, friends, and the entire Lawton Police Department.”

Chief Smith is remembered as a pillar of the Lawton community and a leader whose legacy of service, integrity, and commitment will endure.

Chief Taylor Graduates from FBI National Academy

NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 11, 2025

Union City, OK - On 12/11/2025, Union City Police Department's Chief Adam Taylor has graduated as a member of the 296th session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on December 11th, 2025. Chief Taylor is the first officer in department history to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 11 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to continue to serve in executive-level positions.

The 296th session consisted of two hundred and fifty-four law enforcement officers who graduated today from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The 296th session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 47 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 24 countries, four military organizations, and two federal civilian organizations.

FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits all the National Academy courses offered.

A total of 56,688 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.

Chief Taylor is in his 14th year in law enforcement, having been at Union City for the last 10 years. He holds a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Administration from Arizona State University. Chief Taylor is also currently in his 19th year of military service, where he is a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Civil Affairs Officer.
