I put this out at lunch today but want to reach more of you that may not have been there. We were contacted by the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show board and asked to help with wayfinding this year. We would be posting 2 people at 2 separate positions for a total of four days(4 people per day). If I can coordinate this correctly I’d only need 16 volunteers, each of which would only have to do a single shift for a few hours. Dates would be the 11th, 12th,13th and 14th of June. That’s Thursday-Sunday. I already have a few volunteers so I’m looking for about 12 more. This isn’t roving security or anything too involved, you’ll be stationary at 1 of 2 road crossings insuring foot and vehicle traffic is allowed during racing hours and help by sending people in the right direction.

If you are a Veteran who receives care from the VA please don’t miss out on opportunities to get treatments the VA doesn’t offer in house. Community Care is still a thing, especially in rural Eastern Oregon. If you have a diagnosis that could potentially benefit from massage, especially service connected, tell your provider you’d like a referral through Community Care for massage therapy. Lion Heart Haven Massage and Wellness is located in Union and it’s changing my life. I’ve had herniated discs for 20 years, torn ligaments all over my body, dealt with the aftermath of TBIs and there’s probably not a joint in my body that doesn’t have arthritis. Massage therapy helps and it’s better than any pill the VA tries to prescribe you for pain. The process of getting the referral authorized can take months because Walla Walla is short staffed, start taking the steps now and trust me you’ll wish you had started sooner.

Unfortunately I need to update everyone and let you know this Veteran has passed away. Thank you to everyone that was able to go see him on such short notice.

We have a special request to all community members, if you have an hour you can change someone’s life. La Grande Post Acute Rehab has a Veteran in their care who is on hospice and could use some company. He is approved for and loves having visitors. It could be as simple as just stopping by to introduce yourself and hold his hand for a few minutes. Sit by him and ask him a question, show him he isn’t alone, or just stop in for a few minutes to thank him for his service. Stop by their office and ask for Keara and let her know you just want to visit this Veteran for a moment, it will make a massive impact.

Quick reminder for anyone who will be available; next week on Wednesday the 8th at 0930 we will be at La Grande Post Acute Rehab for coffee with the Veterans who reside there. We had a decent turnout last month with about 12 local Veterans and would like to see at least that many next time. If you are not a Veteran and still want to show up please come by, we are there to support the residents and they would appreciate you being there. We will go right from this event to our lunch at Final Cut Pizza in La Grande so come say hello.

I had the pleasure of meeting Justice and Isaiah a few weeks ago and spent a little while talking with them. They are both Veterans attending school in La Grande, if there’s anyone in Union County from our followers list I would greatly appreciate your help in caring for them by signing up to provide a meal for their family. Through our partnerships with ODFW, OSP, High Timber Dreams, Hines Meat Co. and The City of Union we have a full freezer.

We need your help getting this local game meat into the hands of Veterans in Union and Umatilla Counties who might be going through hard times right now and would benefit from a little help with a week’s worth of meat. We have already fed several Veterans but want the community to have input and help us find those who truly need help.

Do not tag anyone in the comments or nominate yourself in the comments, send us a message nominating a Veteran or letting us know that you are a Veteran in need. This donation isn’t for those in want, we are asking for help finding those who would benefit the most from this.
