Noble Township Volunteer Fire Department

10/15/2026

Our condolences to the friends, members and family of Mark Ritter of the Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department. May he Rest In Peace.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Former Chief and current member Mark Ritter. Mark passed peacfully in true Mark fashion early this morning. He served our department for decades with honor, courage, and distinction. He was a great leader and instructor. We have all learned from him and have become better men for knowing him. He will be missed more than he'll ever know. Our prayers are with the Ritter and Cooley families at this time.

Rest easy Chief. We got it from here.

🚨Tuesday night training 🚒
Last night members of the Noble Twp Volunteer Fire Department participated in pump / drafting training at our dry hydrants located around Noble Twp. Dry hydrants are pipes with hose connections and a strainer that are mounted next to streams or other bodys of water that our engines can literally suck the water out and then pump the water either directly onto a fire or into another truck. We have five dry hydrants located throughout the township, these hydrants are marked so fire companies can located them. We periodically draft off of the hydrants as part of checking them to make sure that they are working properly in case they are needed. Unfortunately I was unable to grab some photos of our firefighters training, but I was able to grab a photo of one off of the web in case you wondered what a dry hydrant looked like.

Tonight members worked on pumping operations such as pulling a draft from a dump tank to refilling a truck.

Pulling a draft is a crucial skill to have in rural firefighting. Hydrate’s aren’t always available in rural areas so we resort to pulling water from a pond or ditch to fill tankers to shuttle water to the scene of a fire.

Dump tanks are utilized on fire scenes so tankers can offload the water and return to the fill sight. This allows tankers to constantly stay on the move so there’s never a shortage of water. It’s better to have tankers waiting to dump rather than waiting on tankers to return.

Nothing says “it’s the start of meteorological fall” like more hot weather, stay safe.

🥵 Summer heat is BACK! We say its Meteorological Fall, Indiana says "hold my b**r!" Widespread heat indices of 100-106°F expected today and tomorrow. One saving grace would be cloud cover from remnant storms to our North in Michigan if they persist into Northern Indiana.
