PAGASA: 34 areas under storm signals as Typhoon Ruby gains more strength

At least 34 areas were under storm signals early Friday as Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) intensified further and continued to move toward Eastern Visayas, state weather agency PAGASA said.
PAGASA said Ruby was estimated at 500 km east of Borongan, Eastern Samar as of 4 a.m., with maximum sustained winds of 215 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 250 kph.

"(Maaring) Linggo ng umaga siya ay magla-landfall sa Samar area," PAGASA forecaster Manny Mendoza told dzBB radio, citing the agency's latest data.

He said there is a chance Ruby may make landfall on Borongan, then affect Samar.

PAGASA said Typhoon Ruby is forecast to move west-northwest at 13 kph and is expected to be 230 km east of Borongan, Eastern Samar by Saturday morning.

By Sunday morning it is expected to be 85 km southeast of Catarman in Northern Samar. By Monday morning, it is expected to be in the vicinity of Romblon, Romblon.

Storm signals
Under Storm Signal No. 2 are (18 areas):
1. Sorsogon
2. Ticao Island
3. Masbate
4. Northern Samar
5. Eastern Samar
6. Samar
7. Biliran
8. Leyte
9. Southern Leyte
10. Northern Cebu
11. Cebu City
12. Bantayan Island
13. Camotes Island
14. Surigao del Sur
15. Agusan del Norte
16. Surigao del Norte
17. Dinagat Island
18. Siargao Island
Under Signal No. 1 are (16 areas):
1. Catanduanes
2. Albay
3. Camarines Norte
4. Camarines Sur
5. Burias Island
6. Romblon
7. Capiz
8. Iloilo
9. Negros Oriental
10. Negros Occidental
11. Rest of Cebu
12. Siquijor
13. Bohol
14. Misamis Oriental
15. Agusan del Sur
16. Camiguin Island

PAGASA said Ruby may bring an estimated rainfall of 7.5 to 20 mm per hour (heavy to intense) within its 700-km diameter.

It added Ruby and the Northeast Monsoon will bring rough to very rough sea conditions over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon, over the seaboards of Visayas and over the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao.

"Fisherfolks and those using small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the said seaboards," it said.

It also warned those living near coastal areas to be alert against possible storm surges

Forecast tracks
The US Naval Observatory's Joint Typhoon Warning Center still has a forecast track for Hagupit different from that of PAGASA.

PAGASA projects Ruby moving across the Visayas, striking Samar Island then cutting through to the northern tip of Masbate and then moving toward southern Mindoro.

In its latest advisory, JTWC said "expect the system to shift slightly to the northwest into a small weakness in the subtropical ridge and continue to weaken as the system tracks along the Bicol peninsula."

"In the extended forecast, the bulk of the dynamic models have come into closer agreement on a generally westward track over the Philippines. While there is still some disagreement in the exact placement of the system, ranging between the Cagayn Valley in norther Luzon to just north of Cebu, there is better confidence in the JTWC forecast track, which lays close to the multi-model consensus," the US Navy address. — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News

To All Units:

Greetings from Umac Philippines!

Please be informed of the strike againsttruck ban, today August 11, 2014, at the Manila South Harbor. The protest is staged by a group of truckers to compel the National Government to resolve port congestion due to the implementation of the truck ban in the City of Manila. In this light, we are to expect some delays in our usual transactions in the port as our trucks are not allowed to enter the terminal in the meantime.

Please be guided accordingly. Thank you.

In the meantime you may e-mail your concerns directly to your respective unit In-Charge. Our I.Ts are currently doing their very best to address this problem with high hopes of having everything resolved on Tuesday, August 12.

Kindly be advised that we are also slightly experiencing fluctuating internet connection due to some internal problems that PLDT has in the area of North Marikina. Your patience will be highly appreciated.
