We had a wonderful evening yesterday at AVE Living to mark the 25th anniversary of the Greater Union Chamber Mayor's Day 5K -- and to encourage support this event for Marcos Rodriguez.

The Chamber takes great pride in this event -- and we invite you to join us as a sponsor or runner. You don't have to compete as a runner, but simply walk at your own pace, too. (Last year, we had runners/walkers ranging from one-year-olds in strollers to a 94 year-old resident!)

Now in its 15th year, the 5K is organized by the Greater Union Chamber, and all funds are received and dispersed by the Chamber and no one else.

A short history: prior to 2011, the Chamber held an annual Golf Outing, dating back to the early 1980's. It was called the Mayor's Day Golf Outing to highlight the fact that this was a collaborative event supported by both the business community and residents. In 2011, the Chamber discontinued the Golf Outing in favor of a more inclusive, community-wide and family event - the 5K. We continued the tradition and called it the Greater Union Chamber/Mayor's Day 5K.

Thanks to so many of you who have expressed your support for our work again this year.

Our Recipient for 2026 - Marcos Rodriguez

Hoping for One Step at a Time

In December 2023, Marcos Rodriguez, a resident of Union, became a quadriplegic in a life-changing moment during a swimming accident on December 22 in Costa Rica, affecting him and his entire family.
Since then, he and his family face mounting and crushing debt for his treatment and care. He attends therapy at Kessler Rehabilitation, determined to walk again.
A father who once witnessed his son battle and survive leukemia, Marcos knows what faith in the darkest hours looks like.
Generously, Marco stepped aside when previously offered assistance – doing so for a local child who is struggling with brain cancer. That is the kind of man he is. For our 5K, the Greater Union Chamber decided that this time would Marcos’ time for support from our wonderful community.
Marcos Rodrigues’ journey has touched so many lives, and now we wish to touch his life as the recipient of a portion of our proceeds from this year’s 5K Run.
Please run/walk this year with us, so that – maybe- one day Marcos will!

Thank you to the Union Township Board of Education for approving Union High School on September 27, 2026, as the site for 15 straight years for the Greater Union Chamber's Mayor's Day 5K!

The Chamber is already setting the framework for another successful 5K Run in 2026. We have a family identified, and we have made some important improvements to the registration process that will streamline and speed up checking in. Also, we have developed a more equitable process for receiving your t-shirts (based upon when you registered online, as opposed to when you show up at the actual 5K...and more! Stay tuned. More to come!

We are aiming for Sunday, September 27, 2006 -- but await confirmation from a variety of sources.
