Officer Dave Cuozzo had been a police officer for over 25 years. He has dedicated his life to help protect and serve his community. Dave has been married to his wife Lisa for over 25 years and they have four beautiful children.
In December 2013, Dave became very ill due to a viral infection transverse myelitis, targeting his spinal cord. As the disease progressed, Dave had to be rushed by ambulance to the hospital. Within hours, the disease progressed, paralyzing Dave from the neck down and leaving him unable to breathe on his own. Hospital physicians placed Dave on a life support respirator as they began searching for the origin of his life threatening condition. With Dave’s family and brother Officer’s at his bedside, Dave underwent the fight of his life.
Dave was hospitalized for 3 months where he endured painful hours of spine and muscle rehabilitative care and therapy. He was later transported to Kessler Institute of West Orange, NJ where he underwent further physical therapy. Dave was eventually discharged to his home where his family and visiting therapist provide homecare.
Dave remains confined to his bed and a power wheelchair due to his paralysis. Update: Dave has regained very limited use of his upper extremities over the last few years despite dealing with advanced atrophy and other effects of the disease. Although there is no known cure for Dave’s condition, he and his family are committed in prayer and spirit that Dave will one day, walk again. In the meantime, Dave’s uncovered specialty care and medical expenses continue to rise. This fundraisers and others like it, help with the uncovered expenses for our Dave.
We would like to thank you in advance for assistance in helping a man who dedicated his life to helping others.
