We voted no on Amendment 5 in August, saying no to one tax scheme. The legislature and governor are at it again. Amendment 7 would create the Show-Me-Prosperity Investment Fund. The goal of the fund would be to invest in a fund in hopes of one day being able to run the state on the profits from the fund, eliminating taxes. I have concerns with this however. First, is the fact that the money for the investments would come from a mix of state funds (our tax money), grants, and donations. The specifics are unclear. Since the state did not have enough money to fully pay our bills last year (for example public schools did not receive full funding), looking to take some of our limited money seems unwise. Next, there is no reliable time table for when the state could run on the profits. It could be decades. Frankly, we just don't have the money for such an uncertain scheme.
