As EMS Week begins, we want to thank all the dedicated providers serving Middleton, our surrounding communities, and providers across the country.

It has been an exceptionally busy stretch for Middleton Fire/Rescue. Over just two days — May 17 and 18 — our crews responded to 7 calls for service, three of which required paramedic-level intervention.

Given the high call volume, we extend our sincere gratitude to Farmington EMS, Frisbee Memorial Hospital Medics, and Milton Fire and EMS for their mutual aid support.

We also want to thank the citizens of Middleton for their support at town meeting for the purchase of a new Zoll Cardiac Monitor. This advanced piece of equipment proved instrumental in a life-saving incident on May 18.

Among our recent responses were an e-bike accident and a truck accident in which the vehicle caught fire on impact. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

Please remember: seat belts and safety helmets save lives.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day.

Did you know about the Ready Campaign?

April is Severe Weather Preparedness Month.

Launched in February 2003, Ready is a National public service campaign designed to educate and empower the American people to prepare for, respond to and mitigate emergencies and disasters. The goal of the campaign is to promote preparedness through public involvement.

Ready asks individuals to do four key things:

Stay informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses
Make a family emergency plan.
Build an emergency supply kit.
Get involved in your community by taking action to prepare for emergencies.

OPEN BURNING UPDATE
Over the last few days, area fire departments have been busy responding to outside fires. Please remember that now that the snow is gone, the top ground cover is dry and may easily ignite.
The information below is a repost of the open burning regulations and permit process.

Fire permits have been required in New Hampshire since 1911 and were put in place to reduce fire occurrence during periods of high fire danger and to reduce carelessness with fire by educating the public. The current fire permit system offers both a paper permit and online permit option. The issuance of the fire permit gives fire officials the opportunity to educate the public about safe burning and reduces fires during periods of high fire danger. The fire permit system also allows for fire officials to know where fires are occurring, thus preventing them from responding to controlled fires when smoke is reported.

Please take the opportunity to review the open burning requirements and obtain a permit.

PROTECT YOUR FAMILY
The Wakefield Lions Club, in conjunction with the Wakefield, Milton, and Middleton Fire Departments, as well as Lowe’s Home Improvement of Rochester, will be distributing First Alert Carbon Monoxide Detectors on Sunday, March 22, from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Wakefield Fire Department in Sanbornville.

Installation of carbon monoxide detectors is one of the best ways to protect your family from carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Wakefield Lions Club’s goal, with our second annual event, is to spread the message about how important it is for families to have a carbon monoxide detector in their home. If there is a potential source of carbon monoxide in your building, our purpose, with your help, is to ensure that every household in the Wakefield area has a carbon monoxide detector to protect against carbon monoxide poisoning or death.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is known as “the Silent Killer.” It is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly because you cannot detect its presence with your senses, making it a significant danger. It can lead to poisoning without warning.

The installation and use of carbon monoxide detectors can help detect this deadly gas before people begin exhibiting symptoms of CO poisoning.

Please visit us at the Wakefield Fire Department on March 22. If you are unable to attend and pick up a detector, please contact the Wakefield Lions Club or your respective fire department for assistance.

Let us all work together to make sure that everyone in our community is protected against carbon monoxide poisoning.
Limit one detector per household.

These detectors are available to the residents of the communities we serve- Wakefield, Brookfield, Middleton.

It's almost time to change the clocks and spring forward!
Please make sure to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

According to the NFPA, 40% of home fires occur in homes without working smoke detectors, and 25% of home fire death resulted from smoke alarms with missing or dead batteries. Smoke alarms provide you with an early warning and additional time to escape in the event of a fire. Not only do they provide an early warning, but they also increase your chance of surviving a fire by 50%.

Carbon monoxide, also known as CO, is called the “invisible killer” because it's a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. It is undetectable to the human senses, so people may not know that they are being exposed.
CO poisoning can occur when a fuel-burning appliance or machine, such as a furnace, heater or generator, is not working or vented properly.
Install and maintain CO alarms inside your home to provide early warning of CO.
Install CO alarms in a central location outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of your home.

For those who do not wish to create an account, the Genasys Protect mobile app is another effective way to stay informed. The app provides real-time, location-based alerts through an interactive map view. Even without a registered account, users can receive broadcast messages relevant to their area—making it a valuable tool for both residents and visitors.
