🐝 Celebrating Our Yellow Jacket Leaders!🖤💛

October is Principal Appreciation Month, and today we're recognizing the administrative team at Union County High School!

We asked UCHS to tell us a little about the people behind the leadership, and their responses show just how much these four administrators mean to their school.

💛 Karen Petty — Fair, Caring & Full of School Spirit

Whether she's checking on students and staff, dancing at pep rallies, or even taking a pie to the face, Mrs. Petty knows how to balance leadership with a little fun! Her school appreciates the way she treats everyone fairly and makes time for others, even on the busiest days.

💛 Lakeesha Jeter — Approachable, Consistent & Always Stylish

According to UCHS, Mrs. Jeter's shoe game is unmatched! But it's her caring personality and approachable nature that students appreciate most. Staff members value the consistency she brings to her role, and her commitment to others extends into the community.

💛 Melissa Gentry — Fierce, Fair & Dependable

The word UCHS used to describe Mrs. Gentry? "Fierce!" Students know she means business, but they also know she cares. Her colleagues appreciate her dependability and the pride she takes in her work. This year is especially meaningful as she celebrates her son's senior year!

💛 Matt Carroll — Kind, Steady & Student-Centered

Mr. Carroll is the kind of administrator students stop in the hallway just to talk to. His soft-spoken approach, fairness, and consistency have earned the respect of students and staff alike. Outside of school, he's a dedicated family man and proud father of two young daughters.

💙 Principal Appreciation Month | Monarch Elementary

Sometimes the best way to recognize great school leaders is to let the people they work with every day do the talking!

At Monarch Elementary, students and staff have shared heartfelt messages celebrating Principal Dena Addis and Assistant Principal Jennifer Roark.

One student described Mrs. Addis as "the colors of a rainbow," while another called Mrs. Roark a "super star" who makes their school better.

Their staff members had plenty to say, too!

💬 "You truly want each child to feel seen, valued, and important."

💬 "She definitely puts others in front of herself. She knows how to make us all feel appreciated."

💬 "They also always make us feel like we are essential."

From thoughtful leadership and encouragement to the little things that make each school day special, Mrs. Addis and Mrs. Roark have clearly made a lasting impression on their Monarch family.

Statement from Union County Schools

On Monday evening, after school hours, staff at Foster Park School noticed an individual on the school’s property. Staff immediately notified administration, and law enforcement was contacted to check on the individual and respond to the situation.

No students were on campus at the time, and no students or staff were harmed. Our staff followed procedure by alerting administration and allowing law enforcement to handle the situation.

We want to thank the City of Union Public Safety Department for their quick response. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we will continue working closely with our local law enforcement partners.

Any further questions about the individual or the charges should be directed to Union Public Safety.

💛 MEET KAREN GREGORY 💛
Speech/Language Therapist | JEMS, MES, SIMS, UCHS, Mon-Aetna, Head Start, Community Children
When Karen was ten, her great-grandmother had a stroke. She wanted nothing more than to help her talk. That moment planted a seed that would grow into a life's work: helping students find their voice—literally and figuratively. 🗣️
Her Impact:
Karen has watched nonverbal students bloom into confident communicators. She's had students come to her during recess because her office felt like the safest place they knew. She's taught students that their voice matters—in all its forms. And she's learned from them that it's more than okay to be different.
What Drives Her:
A student who lived in an unstable home environment told Karen she wished Karen was her mother and seemed like the perfect mother. Another student with a stutter saw his confidence bloom as his speech improved. These are the moments Karen lives for—watching someone discover their own power.
Her Advice:
"Be the students' safe place. Be their biggest advocate. And don't forget to enjoy the moments with them."
Real Karen:
• Started Young: In 5K, she passed out old worksheets to her teddy bears and dolls
• Legacy: She wants every student to know that their voice matters
• Passion: Serving her own community through education

Sims Middle School gathered as a school family this morning to celebrate a big announcement: The 2025–26 South Carolina School Report Card rating is GOOD for the second year in a row! 🏆

This rating means Sims Middle School's performance exceeds the state's criteria for preparing students for the future. That doesn't happen by accident. It reflects the daily hard work of students, the dedication of teachers and staff, and the support of families and community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. We're proud of what has been accomplished, and not done yet! 💪
