Introducing our new Foundation Fundraiser: Putting for a Purpose!

Last year, Direction Home Akron Canton Foundation unveiled a new mission and vision with three new focuses: improving access to essential community services, creating innovative solutions that optimize aging, and investing in Direction Home as a leader for aging network professionals to provide the best quality of care.

Previously, each annual Foundation Fundraising Campaign was marked by a raffle drawing period. After careful consideration and analysis of donor trends, the Direction Home Akron Canton Foundation has decided to forgo hosting a raffle drawing to provide a wider array of giving opportunities for both individual community members and sponsoring organizations.

One of these new opportunities is a fundraiser at the local Putt Street Social, where attendees will enjoy 18 holes of indoor mini golf, snacks and drinks, and networking with like-minded donors! To help reduce the chance of falls, older Ohioans should talk with their doctor about their personal risk factors — and join the statewide 10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls campaign by adding daily movement to their routine.

Important reminder from SCPH.
Summit County Public Health (SCPH) would like to remind residents as damp weather continues wild mushrooms will start to show up in yards and landscapes throughout Summit County. Please remember it is not safe to eat wild mushrooms as some varieties of wild mushrooms in Ohio are very poisonous and if eaten can make the individual very sick, or can even be deadly. As a rule, stay away from wild mushrooms and make sure to keep children and pets away.

Summer winding down means that it’s time to think about applying for Direction Home’s Joseph L. Ruby Student Scholarship! Applications are now open.

We are excited for another year of supporting a college student who aspires to work with older adults and is studying in the field of gerontology, social work, health and human services, nursing, or a related social services field.
