**Celebrate the Fourth Safely**
As you prepare to gather with family and friends this Independence Day, Union County Fire Rescue reminds everyone to make safety your top priority when enjoying fireworks.
While fireworks are a holiday tradition, they also send thousands of people to the emergency room every year. According to the National Fire Protection Association:
-2 out of every 5 fireworks injury victims are children under the age of 15.
-Children ages 10–14 experience the highest injury rates.
-Even sparklers burn at temperatures of more than 1,200°F, hot enough to cause severe burns in seconds.
In 2025, fireworks caused approximately 13,000 injuries nationwide.
If you choose to use legal fireworks, remember:
-Soak all used or malfunctioning fireworks in a bucket of water before disposal.
-Keep children under close adult supervision at all times.
-Keep a water source nearby and never relight a dud firework.
The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional display. Tonight the City of Uniontown and Caseyville will both be hosting public fireworks shows!
