☀️ Heat Safety Reminder from Greentown Fire Department EMS ☀️
During our monthly EMS training this week, crews reviewed the recognition and treatment of heat-related emergencies. With temperatures expected to climb later this week, we wanted to share a few important reminders to help keep our community safe.
💧 Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day.
🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
🌡️ Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
🚗 Never leave children, pets, or vulnerable adults in a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes.
⚠️ Know the signs of heat-related illness:
• Heat Exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache
• Heat Stroke: confusion, altered mental status, hot/dry skin, loss of consciousness
🚑 Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately if someone becomes confused, unconscious, or shows signs of severe heat illness.
Please remember to check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone who may not have reliable access to air conditioning.
As temperatures rise later this week, take a few extra precautions and help keep yourself, your family, and your neighbors safe.
Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Stay safe. 🚒🚑☀️
