The Uniontown Fire Department is a combination department staffed by both career and volunteer firefighters and serves the City of Uniontown which covers an area of approximately 2.5sq miles with a population of 12,034 people. The department is made up of IAFF Local 955 (Chartered 1947) and three volunteer companies: Union Hose Company (Chartered 1898), Keystone Fire Company (Chartered 1899), and
Chief Williams Hook & Ladder Company (Chartered 1902). IAFF Local 955 comprises of 9 personnel, a Fire Chief, a Lieutenant and 7 Firefighter/Engineers who staff and drive our units to the scene. The three volunteer companies have approximately 100 life and active members combined. Volunteer members respond in their personal vehicles on calls, or they can go to the station and respond with Rescue 40 or Squad 40. Operating out of 2 stations the UFD runs 5 front line apparatus as well as a reserve engine. Central station, located on Beeson Blvd., houses Engine 2, 40 Truck 1, Rescue 40, and Squad 40, as well as a medic unit and Supervisor from Fayette EMS. East End Station, on Connellsville Street, has Engine 3 and Engine1(reserve), and is manned by one Firefighter/Engineer who drives Engine 3. The Uniontown Fire Department is dispatched by Fayette County 911 over 155.190 Mhz also using an 800 Mhz Band for dispatch simulcast and fire ground operations. The earliest record of a fire department in Uniontown goes back to January 28, 1802. According to an article from the "Daily News Standard", now the Herald Standard, in 1901, minutes from a Fayette County commissioners meeting shows a discussion about purchasing a fire engine for the town. On September 17, 1802 a pumper was purchased from Philadelphia, PA for one hundred dollars. It also came with a bucket cart and hose cart. The pumper "was double action force pump with no suction and required from 14 to 20 men to manipulate it". There are some rules that will be enforced:
