Fayette County Association for the Blind

Fayette County Association for the Blind Our mission: To assist the blind and visually impaired and to provide education on prevention of blindness. We are proud to offer this much needed program!

Programs at the Fayette Blind Association

Specialized Services programs help individuals with daily living tasks such as cooking, shopping, bill paying, and transportation. The support that we provide helps your neighbors with low vision with these daily tasks so they can remain independent in their own homes. Prevention of Blindness Program-As the leader in child vision screenings in Fayette Cou

nty, our program is most reliable in detecting childhood vision problems as we screen more than 1,300 children annually for vision problems. We know that it is important to reveal eye problems in children while they are still treatable, and that finding a child’s vision problem at a very young age greatly helps them in school, and throughout their lives! Support Group for the Newly Diagnosed-This group provides peer support with a social worker to help clients newly diagnosed with a vision impairment. Patch Power Program-Children diagnosed with vision problems that require them to wear an eye patch receive fun activities, and chances to win prizes by complying with treatment. Parents receive information on their child's eye condition and information and tips to help their child comply with treatment. Vision for Living Activity Group-This popular program provides physical activities ranging from bowling to miniature golf or provides different social activities which give your low vision and blind neighbors the opportunity to engage in many, fun, entertaining types of physical activity in a safe and secure manner. Dress to Impress-a self-esteem life skills education program for our neighbors with blindness or low vision. The four week program helps your blind and low vision neighbors learn skills that will help them with clothing management and online or in-store shopping. HOMES Program- The Home Orientation and Mobility Experiences in School (HOMES) program, hosted at the Fayette Blind Association enables students who are blind or visually impaired to learn compensatory skills, participate in career exploration activities, acquire orientation and mobility skills, and practice appropriate social skills in a variety of educational and community settings. The primary goal is to increase their level of independence. This school aged program is one of only a few activities for younger people with vision loss in Fayette County.
