Today, the Fayette County Recorder of Deeds Office proudly recognizes National Airborne Day and the brave men and women who have served in Americaโs airborne forces.
National Airborne Day commemorates August 16, 1940, when the U.S. Army conducted its first official parachute jump at Fort Benning, Georgia. Since then, generations of paratroopers have answered the call, jumping into uncertainty and danger in defense of our nation.
From the battlefields of World War II to Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and missions around the world, Americaโs airborne forces have built a proud legacy of courage, determination, and service.
Today, we salute all past and present paratroopers, especially those from Fayette County who have worn the uniform and earned their wings.
All the Way! Airborne!
