Costly reminder. Linseed oil is particularly prone to self combustion when wadded up and in a container with little airflow.

FMO Investigating Fire in Waterville

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to 3 Aubrey Street in Waterville shortly after 10:30 am Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the request of the Waterville Fire Department for a reported structure fire. Investigators arrived on scene and conducted an origin and cause investigation along with interviews. The fire was contained to the enclosed porch of the residence causing only minor smoke damage inside the home. The porch sustained heavy fire damage. Investigators concluded the fire was a result of the improper disposal of oil-based staining rags placed in a trash bag. When confined, staining rags can spontaneously combust and cause a fire. The Fire Marshal's Office would like to remind everyone that staining rags should be disposed of safely, outside the residence or garage. It is recommended rags be submerged in a bucket of water or laid out flat to dry on a non-combustible surface such as a dirt or paved driveway.

Today we remember Robert "Jonsey" Jones. 26 years ago today went down as one of the most horrific tragedies in the town of Unity's history. On his way home from work going to celebrate his birthday there was a report of a structure fire in the center of town with 3 young boys trapped inside, those of who experienced it, stills haunts them, that night Jonsey suffered a fatal heart attack while running a pumper at the near by water source. He was tasked with a greater assignment that night, as he guided the three 5 year old boys that perished in the fire to heaven. Happy Heavenly Birthday Jonsey we will never forget you, rest easy my friend

Happy New Year, 2025 has been a busy year for us and looking forward to 2026. Thank you to our staff and our families for a successful year. We couldn't of done it without you.
