If you've been anywhere in University City the last few months, you've probably seen Officer Jake Goldstein. And if you haven't, he's probably just finishing up somewhere else.
He's been at elementary schools reading with the school district, showing up for kids who need to see police as something other than sirens and uniforms. He's been out on the Delmar Loop documenting the Mannequins in the Loop art project, connecting with the artists and community members transforming recycled materials into public art. And he was there carrying the Special Olympics torch run, investing time in athletes and families who represent the best of what we do as a community.
That's the thing about Jake. He's always the one. Always showing up. Always finding the next way to be present in the neighborhood. He knows that community policing isn't a program you run once and forget. It's consistent presence. It's showing your face. It's proving that you actually care about the people you serve beyond the badge.
The community sees him. Kids see him. Families see him. And they understand that their police department is invested in more than just responding to calls.
Thank you, Officer Goldstein, for showing up everywhere and reminding us what this work looks like when someone truly commits to it.
