Traffic advisory - Long term lane closure in the 8300 block of Preston
The outside northbound lane of Preston Road (adjacent to the commercial buildings) between Villanova and Wentwood will be closed for surface improvements by The Plaza at Preston Center. The closure is scheduled from March 20 through July 20, weather permitting.
Save the date! The spring 2023 Park Cities Recycling Event will take place on Saturday, April 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the SMU parking lot across from Burleson Park. You may bring documents to shred, donations for the Salvation Army and electronic waste to the event. Hope to see you there! ♻️

Traffic advisory - Road closure 4000 block of Caruth
The 4000 block of Caruth adjacent to University Park United Methodist Church will be closed to traffic tomorrow, March 15, for crane placement to install equipment at the church. The closure is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Smith Park will remain open during this time and parking will be available on Pickwick and Greenbrier.
Hop on over to Goar Park on Saturday, April 1 for Eggstravaganza! The event begins at 9 a.m. and the Easter egg hunt will start at 10 a.m. Remember to bring a basket for egg collection!
For even more fun, Eggstravaganza will also include photos with the Easter Bunny, face painting, and bounce houses!

The annual Dallas Mavs St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival on Greenville Ave is taking place this weekend. The parade begins at 11 a.m. tomorrow, March 11, and the festival is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This may result in traffic delays and road closures near UP. Update - this project has been completed!
Oncor contractors will be trimming trees near power lines in a section of University Park, just south of Lovers and west of 75-Central Expressway. The effort is set to start the week of February 20. The work will take up to three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
The areas involved are:
-Alley between Rankin and Westminster from Airline east to the City limits
-Alley between Milton and Rosedale east of Durham to the City limits
-Alley between Rosedale and Daniel east of Dublin to the City limits
-Bodeker from Daniel north to Westminster

Traffic advisory - Preston/Lovers lane closure
On Monday, March 6, the outside northbound lane of Preston will be closed between Grassmere and Amherst so Atmos contractors can repair alley concrete from a previous gas leak. The closure is scheduled from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, weather permitting.

We hope you've dusted off your fishing gear and practiced a few rod-casting techniques as we're less than 24 hours away from kicking off our first fishing derby of the year at Caruth Park Pond from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.
Awards will be given each hour for the largest catch and smallest catch.
You won't want to miss this morning full of fun!

Most of North Texas is under a Tornado Watch until 10 p.m. There is potential for severe weather in the area tonight that could produce damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes.
If your phone is alerted and you hear sirens, that is for wind speeds as strong as a weak tornado! So treat it like one! Get inside, away from windows! Widespread damaging winds will impact most everyone in Collin and Dallas counties.

Who’s ready to go fishing?! 🎣 1,006 rainbow trout were delivered to the Caruth Park pond this morning ahead of the Children’s Fishing Derby, taking place this Saturday from 9 am to noon! Road closure - 6900 block of Snider Plaza
All lanes of the 6900 block of Snider Plaza will be closed early tomorrow morning, February 25, to set up a crane for the replacement of mechanical equipment on the rooftop of 6901 Snider Plaza. The closure will be in effect from 4 to 9 a.m.

The outside southbound lane of Preston between Centenary and Marquette is closed for an emergency water service repair at 8111 Preston. This closure is scheduled through 5 p.m. tomorrow, February 24, weather permitting.

Today, we are going to take a look at the Master Plan Theme of Technological Integration. Sergeant Rod Edwards shares with us Action Item 1.1, which falls under the goal of “Improving Traffic Technology.” This action item suggests utilizing the most current available traffic signal preemption technology to assist police and fire units safely traveling through intersections when responding to emergency calls for service. The Parks Department showed off at this morning’s Community Helper Story Time! In addition to reading two stories, Parks staff demonstrated some of the awesome tools that they use everyday. It was a hit among the kiddos, and our employees had a great time too. 🌳😊 At next week’s Community Helper Story Time, a UPFD Paramedic will be featured at 10:30 a.m. in the Goar Park Gazebo on Thursday, October 6. Thanks again to University Park Public Library for organizing these awesome events!
Today, we are going to take a look at the Master Plan Theme of Affirming Sense of Place. Assistant Fire Chief Scott Green shares with us Action Item 7.5. This action item, which falls under the goal of “Increase Investment in Programs to Protect University Park Residents,” suggests offering CPR training for residents as a valuable community building activity, while also providing training that could save lives. Stay tuned for another Centennial Master Plan Action Item highlight next week!
If you guessed that we would be highlighting Assuring Connectivity this week, you were correct! Kaylon from the Parks Department shares with us Action Item 3.1. This action item, which falls under the goal of “Promote Pedestrian and Bicycle Mobility Throughout University Park,” suggests improving the wayfinding of the UP park system by signage that indicates the nearest other parks, so that visitors would be more aware that any given park is only a piece of a larger system. Stay tuned for another Centennial Master Plan Action Item highlight next week!
In the week’s Centennial Master Plan feature, we’re spotlighting the goal of Resident Protection. This goal falls under the theme of Preparing for the Future. Thomas will share a sample action item from this portion of the plan. Any guesses to what goal we will highlight next week?!
