Election-year ethics restrictions on official legislative communications are in effect starting May 4, meaning that until the election results are certified this November, I won’t be able to provide updates through my official Senate social media accounts.

However, I can still respond to calls and emails, so don’t hesitate to contact my office if you have questions about any legislative issue, have feedback, or just want to say hello. My office is also available to help resolve issues with state agencies or connect you to resources. Email me at [email protected] or call my office at (360)786-7690.

Senate Bill 5855 is now law — ensuring law enforcement at every level, including ICE and CBP, shows their faces on duty.

Because accountability matters, and public safety should never hide behind a mask.

We got it done. 👏🏽

Senate Bill 5855 is now law — requiring federal, state, and local law enforcement, including ICE and CBP, to show their faces while on duty. A major step forward for accountability and public trust.

In Washington, public safety doesn’t hide behind a mask. Thank you, Washington!

🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Senate Bill 5855 is now law!

Sponsored by Sen. Javier Valdez (D-Seattle), this bill requires law enforcement officers to show their faces while on duty, setting a new standard for transparency, accountability, and public trust.

It’s a direct response to masked ICE and CBP raids under the Trump administration, which have terrorized families and left communities in fear. Washington is saying loud and clear: public safety doesn’t hide behind a mask. If you have the power to detain someone, the public has the right to know who you are.

I was proud to join Refugee Women’s Alliance (ReWA) and community partners to celebrate the expansion of the Seattle Preschool Program at the NOOK.

This new Early Learning Center will soon serve more than 100 children—from infants to preschoolers—providing multicultural, multilingual, and multigenerational support for families in our community.

Investing in early learning means investing in our future, and I’m grateful to support spaces where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
