Being a foster parent is opening your heart to a child who may only stay for a season, but loving them deeply enough to leave a lifetime of hope. It’s not about sharing your blood, it’s about sharing your strength, your patience, and your unconditional love when a child needs it most.

For June, we would like to recognize Lonnie as our Foster Parent of the Month. Lonnie has been a dedicated foster parent since 2006 and has provided a safe, loving home throughout his time in foster care.

A fun fact about Lonnie is that he enjoys traveling and riding his e-bike. Lonnie was inspired to become a foster parent because he enjoys helping kids grow and become successful adults. "I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment when I can bridge the gap for youth who need additional support. I enjoy making a difference in people's lives," says Lonnie.

When asked what advice he would give someone thinking of becoming a foster parent, Lonnie says, "It isn't always easy, but you have to trust yourself and be confident in the care you have for the kids in your home and lean on your support."

Thank you, Lonnie, for being such an advocate for the youth in your care.

This month is a celebration of love, authenticity, courage, and the beautiful diversity that makes our communities stronger. It’s a time to honor the LGBTQ+ individuals who have paved the way for progress, those who continue to advocate for equality, and everyone who chooses to live their truth each day.

Pride is more than a celebration. It’s a reminder that every person deserves to be seen, respected, and loved for who they are. It’s about creating spaces where people can belong without fear, express themselves without apology, and be embraced without conditions.

As we celebrate this month, let’s continue to listen, learn, support, and stand together. May we build a world where everyone feels safe to be themselves and where love, acceptance, and understanding guide the way forward.

To all who are celebrating: your story matters, your identity is valid, and your presence makes the world brighter.

Happy Pride Month. 🖤🤎🩵🩷🤍❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🏳️‍🌈

Did you know that Anu Family Services provides more than treatment-level foster care? We provide an array of human-focused services that assist both individuals and families in their journeys of healing.

Parent coaching provides caregivers with practical, hands-on tools to support meaningful change in their child’s behavior.

Using a trauma-informed, personalized approach, coaches work with parents (without the child present) to strengthen attachment, build confidence, and improve everyday interactions. Families learn Present Moment Parenting strategies that focus on connection, emotional understanding, and effective responses in real time.

This support benefits children with a wide range of needs, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ODD, Reactive Attachment Disorder, adoption or foster care experiences, and those without a diagnosis.

The focus is on understanding behavior through a trauma-informed lens and helping parents respond in ways that reduce conflict and support healing.

The goal is stronger relationships, improved communication, and a calmer, more connected home environment where children can thrive.

Individualized Trauma Services (ITS) Resiliency Specialists build trusting, supportive relationships with children and adults who have experienced trauma and attachment disruptions. They meet clients where they are, literally in homes, schools, and communities, and focus on creating safety, consistency, and a sense of control in the healing process.

A key part of this work is empowering clients: they can “hire” or “fire” their Resiliency Specialist, reinforcing choice and self-advocacy. Specialists also provide education about trauma and how it affects the brain and body, while teaching coping skills, emotional regulation, and relaxation strategies.

ITS supports individuals who may be experiencing challenging behaviors or relationship difficulties, including those impacted by generational trauma, mental illness in the family, child protection involvement, corrections, or out-of-home placement. Services can supplement therapy or stand alone, depending on need.

At its core, ITS is about increasing resilience, restoring connection, and supporting each person’s capacity to heal.

In May, we would like to recognize Sandy as our Foster Parent of the Month 💜

Sandy has been a dedicated foster parent with Anu Family Services since 2020 and was previously licensed at the county level since 2012.

A fun fact about Sandy is that she has her own chicken coop where she raises chickens as pets, adding a little country charm to her home.

Sandy was inspired to become a foster parent because she recognizes the ongoing need for children to have safe, loving homes. She wanted to be that place of comfort and care for children during difficult times.

When asked what she would say to someone considering fostering, Sandy shares: “It can be the toughest job you will ever do, but also the most rewarding. It’s amazing to know you’ve made a difference in a child’s life, and seeing those transformations happen is truly awesome.”

Thank you, Sandy, for the compassion and commitment you bring to fostering every day.

May is National Foster Parent Appreciation Month 💙

This month, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the incredible foster parents who open their hearts and homes to children in need. Your kindness, patience, and unwavering support create safe spaces where healing can begin and hope can grow.

Foster parenting isn't easy. It requires strength, compassion, and a willingness to show up every single day, even when it's hard. The love you give, the stability you provide, and the difference you make in a child's life truly matter more than words can express.

To every foster parent: thank you for being a light during uncertain times, for advocating, nurturing, and caring so deeply. You are changing lives in ways that ripple far beyond what you can see.

This month, and every month, we appreciate you!
