The Chesapeake Sheriff's Office has added a new "Certified Jail Manager" (CJMs) to its ranks! Lieutenant Jeremiah Harrell was recently designated a Certified Jail Manager by the American Jail Association (AJA). He joined the ranks of Sheriff Jim O'Sullivan and seven other members of the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office as recipients of this prestigious national certification. According to the AJA, there are now 11 certified jail managers in Hampton Roads; eight of them work for the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office.
The recipients completed a thorough background investigation and an intensive four-hour exam prepared by the AJA and the Jail Manager Certification Commission. The exam was based purely on knowledge and experience; there was no study material. To earn the certification, applicants had to demonstrate competency, professionalism in the field, and strong specialty knowledge. The award recognizes continuing education and growth in the field of corrections management.
The AJA is a national, nonprofit organization that supports the professionals who operate our nation's jails. It is the only national association focusing exclusively on issues specific to the operations of local correctional facilities.

Thank you so much to the Chesapeake Rotary! Earlier this month. the Rotary Club presented a generous donation to our Children Today Leaders Tomorrow (CTLT) non-profit to fund our community programs for children. Undersheriff David Rosado accepted the donation on behalf of Sheriff Jim O'Sullivan. We were one of the multiple non-profits presented with checks by the club for our work in the community. We are so grateful for this donation and everything the Chesapeake Rotary Club does for our community year-round.

, check out these photos from the Chesapeake Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 9's "Cops & Kids" event earlier this month.
Lodge #9 is made up of active and retired law enforcement officers in Chesapeake. Once again this year, the FOP joined forces with Walmart for the annual "Cops & Kids" event. Deputy sheriffs, police officers, and high school students from our ASPIRE program went shopping for holiday gifts for local families in need.
The event is designed to bring some holiday cheer to families who are in need around the holidays

An event for the record books! The numbers are in, Sheriff Jim O'Sullivan's 7th Annual “Dancing With The Athletes” raised a record-breaking $35,436 for Special Olympics Virginia (SOVA)! The glittering dance competition took over the Chesapeake Conference Center Sunday; and what a show it was!
Undersheriff David Rosado and Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Pascal emceed the event as 13 first responders and 13 SOVA athletes teamed up to compete in a “Dancing With the Stars”-like competition. This year’s competition featured first responders from the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office, Chesapeake Police Department, Chesapeake Fire Department, Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, and the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office.
Tanner Strickland and Senior Deputy R. Lucas (CSO) had the crowd roaring as they danced the robot to “Cold Heart” by Elton John and Dua Lipa. For their performance, they took home the Mirrorball Trophy and the “Fan Favorite” award. Congratulations to Robert Waller and Master Deputy R. Parker (NSO) our top fundraisers!
Thank you to our sponsors (Virginia Extreme Force Cheerleading and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare), everyone who donated, and everyone who attended who made this all possible! See you all on the dance floor next year and enjoy the big smiles in the pictures below.

Sheriff Jim O'Sullivan and Undersheriff David Rosado welcomed employees and their families to the party at the Khedive Shrine Temple. Everyone had a great time celebrating the holiday season and catching up while eating delicious food by the Egg Bistro, and listening to music by DJ Deputy K. Mayo. Sheriff O’Sullivan’s “twin brother,” Senator Lionell Spruill, Sr., stopped by to celebrate and wish everyone happy holidays!
Practice makes perfect! The dancers for this weekend’s Dancing With the Athletes were hard at work last night perfecting their dance moves.

Not even the Grinch and Scrooge could ruin these Christmas parades. Despite the rain, Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan, Undersheriff David Rosado, and the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office had a not-so-silent Saturday night (and morning) at the Chick-fil-A Christmas Parade in Western Branch and the Chesapeake Rotary Christmas Parade in Great Bridge.
Sheriff O'Sullivan, Undersheriff Rosado, the CSO’s Honor Guard, Motor Unit, and Elite Unit had a blast seeing all of the decorated floats and ringing in the holidays. Check out these pictures!
Thank you to everyone who donated at our Cover the Cruiser fundraiser at the Wawa in Kempsville! Deputies braved the cold and the rain to raise money for Special Olympics Virginia ahead of our 7th Annual Dancing With the Athletes fundraiser on December 11th at the Chesapeake Conference Center! 13 Special Olympic athletes teamed up with 13 local law enforcement officers to compete in a "Dancing With the Stars"-like competition. The whole event is a heart-warming fundraiser for SOVA.

Donut worry about a thing. Today, Grassfield High School hosted its 2nd Coffee & Donuts event for first responders. Chesapeake sheriff’s deputies, police officers, and firefighters ate donuts, drank coffee, and interacted with students. The world is your oyster, it’s up to you to find the pearl. What a great time it was at this year's Chesapeake Sheriff's Oyster&South Festival at Historic Greenbrier Farms. Sheriff Jim O'Sullivan and the Sheriff's Office made sure that families and friends in our great community enjoyed themselves eating oysters, dancing to live music performed by Kershaw and Foutz featuring H. L. Wilson and Dan Clemens and overall, a great time. We would like to thank Wendy's-Grassfield, AT&T, Emerson Ci**rs, LA Bella Chic Salon&Blow Dry Bar, Big Ugly Brewery, Garage Brewery, Tarnish Truth Distilling, Vacation Village Resorts, Perfectly Franks-Edinburgh, and Mitch and Marie Real Estate for supporting this years oyster roast. All the funding for this event goes to Sheriff Jim O'Sullivan's CTLT( Children Today, Leaders Tomorrow) non-profit organization to support local children.
