The Washington and Lee golf teams have been practicing without a golf course since the beginning of the year. The school and the Lexington Golf and Country Club are collaborating to renovate the course with improved facilities and plan to host tournaments once construction is complete.

Rockbridge CAN is now working to bring food to those living in some of the Rockbridge area’s most remote regions. The organization provides free, restaurant-style meals in areas with limited access to fresh food, including new service in Fairfield and a potential expansion into Arnold’s Valley.

The renovation of downtown Lexington’s Courthouse Square has added benches, charging outlets, and lighting. At least 13 donors funded the project, including Washington and Lee and Virginia Military Institute. The space will be used to host America 250 celebrations this summer.

Wayne Handley, the city’s interim city manager, says two sworn officer positions will be taken away due to the merging of Parry McCluer Middle School into Parry McCluer High School. A vacant patrol officer position also will remain unfilled. Dave Clements, the city’s interim police chief, says he does not expect any impact on response times.

Lexington Coffee Shop closed last year after Karen and Jon Landis bought the building and started renovations. Electrical issues have delayed the project, according to their contractor. Former manager Rachael Rooney says her plans to reopen the coffee shop didn’t work out.
